Reliability

Might be a very hard question to answer..... but in general, when looked after how reliable are d3's.

How often are you guys getting issues coming up.

Its quite easy when looking through a forum to think that everyones cars are ill all of the time....

But obviously this cant be the case.

Thoughts?

Mine wanted for absolutely nothing and the engine died at 166k. She was even having 6 monthly oil changes. Some last stupidly high miles, some die early and everything in between. It’s a total lottery.

And no, I didn’t join the forum because of problems, I joined to annoy DG. It’s a calling. Laughing Laughing

Less things to go wrong in the engine on a V8... says the V8rs.

Otherwise the same issues with brakes, suspension, etc.

When you say the engine died, do you know what the cause was?

I wonder how many vechicles can rattle up 150k + miles / be 12 years old and not be falling apart. The weakest link is the engine and cost of replacing them but this is not only a landrover problem. My last 4x4 (non landrover) was scrap even though it was mint when the key on the crank went @ 100k.

I went down the V8 route and haven't regretted it.

I havent had any real issues. (Touch everything) Sticking rear caliper, sticky front height sensor, and front hub bearing. I don't think that's bad in 10,500 miles and 18months.

Now at 114,300 miles and super smooth and comfortable.

Spun bearings was the remote diagnosis, I was a few thousand miles from home and not in a position to have the engine stripped. She was scrapped.

This is a noise you don’t want to ever hear.

There was a bridge about 1km away, in the “how far will she get” sweepstake my dibs was on in the middle of that. For maximum effect. I did rev her and she didn’t blow, but I don’t think she had more than a little left to go. Deffo not back home anyway. Thumbs Up

I think all forums are the same, nobody posts that they are having trouble free motoring, they generally post when looking for help, or to simply share the pain.

I ran a TVR for a few years before we had the kids, and if you went on that forum you'd never buy one! Mine was trouble free for 5 years, tyres and an annual service was all it required.

My Disco has been the same. 2008 with approx 96K, full LR Service history and in 6 years of my tenure has not broken down or failed to start - never let me down.
In that time I have had things replaced obviously as they wear out, wheel bearings, brake lines, compressor & reservoir etc. For piece of mind I also had the oil pump changed to the later version when the belts were done to hopefully avoid the tensioner failure which blights 07/08 cars, and have had the box flushed by Geoff.

I think its a bit of a lottery, but then all brands are known to have issues of one sort of another.

Had one of the originals back in 2004 that was constantly in for warranty work, inconvenient but no pain to my wallet.

Bought a 2005 model in 2013 which I ran for 3 years that never let me down, but was a bit like Triggers Broom Smile

Current 2015 MY hasn't missed a beat, but it is under 3 years old and covered only 23000 miles.
