AUTO BOX question
Hi Guys,
Problem with the auto box (or si I think...)
When at low speed mostly between 2nd and 3rd, the autobox seems to 'lag' before shifting into higher gear. When I put the pedal down everything goes smooth again after shifting back first.
My answer to this problem is to keep it in sport mode, then huffing and puffing doesn't apear.
I must say, with 220.000km on the clock, the box only had one service done at around 100.000K. It is my understanding that the Disco3 autobox is "fill for life", so no oil/filter changes should be needed?
Any idea if an oil change could be a (permanent) fix to my problem (maybe adding some Dr Tranny)?
Cheers
Andy

hi
the “ filled for life quote “ is a myth and the ATF oil and filter should indeed be replaced

"Filled for life" transmissions are a myth! I spoke to ZF about this some years ago and they told me they never offered this recommendation to vehicle manufacturers. When I asked what the service recommendations were, I was told "filter and oil flush at 80,000 miles max", and every 40,000 miles thereafter!! Sounds like your filter might be struggling to pick up the oil!

I would suggest getting a mega flush with a machine which replaces all the ATF with new.
There are at least four different ways of changing ATF:
1. traditional - drop pan, change filter, fill new ATF. Your LR dealer would replace the pan and filter with an integrated version which contains both (so identical to what comes from the factory), an independent would probably do it so that the filter and pan are separate as it makes the install easier. Doesn’t really change all oil, leaves ~ 40% original
2. mega flush - changes all ATF
3. filo flush - search the forums, can be done in your yard
4. change filter/pan from integrated one to separate and mega flush (2.)
I would recommend that you would read a few threads here, lots of different opinions.
My understanding is that Dr. Tranny only alleviates the problems for a while.

Ditto, funny enough was interested to know what the interval was, alas mines just coming up to 100,000 miles and not sure if it’s ever been done , for peace of mind want to change it before there’s issues
bought 10 x litres of AG55 to give it a double flush

Yeah good plan in my view. I got caught years ago with my 7 series BMW which they told me not to touch. After it went wollop at 125 k miles I enquired from ZF to be told the truth! Ever since, all my family's cars which are auto's have been subjected to an 80k or less flush and filter change. Never had another issue since.

I think its as I was suggesting in my earlier post,, in that the filter in the auto box seems to be struggling to suck up oil. Beyond that without diagnostic codes, or experiencing the problem I can't offer much at this point.

the filters don't block on these.
buts it certainly worth changing the oil (with stuff sold for zf6hp) (not red!) and see what happens
