So, having planned to sell the D3, having got it in tip top shape, I'm now having doubts
At 143k miles, there are no signs of impending meltdown of major mechanicals and all is well. It's now genuinely achieving 'retro-cool' status I reckon
Things is, part of the man-maths of replacing the D3 means a likely downsize (probably to a FL2) and I just can't get excited at the prospect of spending c£12k to get a car that I like less...albeit one that doesn't cost a fortune to run and is generally a 'nice' place to be.
That all I said, there's usually a bill around the corner (cam-belt due next year as a minimum) and what will the D3 be worth in a year with 155k miles? (I reckon I can get £6k for it now).
I'd genuinely made my mind up to sell..am I being sentimental and I should get rid, or should I give the old girl another year or two?'06 TDV6 HSE, Java, Black Leather, Logic 7, Privacy, Steps

If you’d have asked the same question 12 months ago I’d have said keep. If you’d have asked 10 months ago I’d have said sell.
Git rid and move on. I was going to keep my Blue D4, especially after getting her in tip top sparkling condition...
But I finally circum to sense and despite first looking at another LR product, I will be taking delivery of a blue oval product 1st September...
Ok, I’m lucky, I have another Discovery to drive, but even that one will eventually get replaced and at present with JLRs offerings it too is likely to get replaced with a different brand. But hopefully not LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Yup, as you seei. There’ll be a few things I’ll miss,
Heated Steering wheel,
Park heater,
Armrests on driver seat,
to name but a few, but at the end of the day it’s just my works vehicle and I have MrsHs D4 to fall back on LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Officially known as Oompahloompah Orange.
But we digress from the OP’s original question.

The view I'm taking is to keep it unless you really have to sell it. The time you've put into it alone wouldn't be really be recouped in the 6k you might get for it. I intend to keep mine going for as long as possible simply because after having a D5 (and sending it back) there isn't anything else that compares and once out of one I would immediately want to be back in one perhaps rushing back into it and buying a real nail!
My opinion of course

I’ve a D3 Commercial and my wife has a FL2. I’ll be shot for this... but the FL2 is a very nice car to drive. Far Far more reliable and at low speed a lot more get up and go. At higher speed the D3 is better and on a long journey far less engine noise and the air suspension is smother. In about two years time I’ll be changing and won’t need the D3 size so it’ll be a FL2 for me.
