Sdv6 water in MAP causing limp mode |
|
Hi All, Just a quick intro: recently went back to Disco 4 ownership, have had a few (4) we simply could not deny yourselves the unparalleled practicality and comfort. Our last disco 4 cratered it's engine (tdv6) and we had to pick up some courage again. We also have/had Range Rovers and Defenders so with all that experience I deal with minor issues easily and do have the IID tool.
Anyhow 2014 Disco 4HSE, SDV6 208kkm, 8 speed gearbox. After ~4000 glorious km the engine went to limp mode on a long trip. Code indicated MAP sensor which when removed was found to have a few drops of clean water and and after cleaning worked fine for another ~800km and then the same codes and again water removed and fine. Note that the weather has been biblical, so water is not a surprise.
I could buy a new sensor (not that cheap), but I feel that maybe the water is the cause to look at first. It as been very wet and cold (incl Alps - 10deg C). I checked the air filter - dry but there was some water in the bottom of the housing. I removed the rubber charge hose and found some drops in there as well.
So my question is: assuming no water can enter after the turbo (pressure) and I can hear no leaks is there a connection somewhere on the intake side (pre-turbo) that has a habit of splitting letting water in?

Is there not a drain in the bottom of the housing?
Is it blocked? Gone 2016 Landmark D4
Current 2015 HSE D4 - AKA - 'Gandalf the Grey'
