Small amount of petrol added to deisel by mistake |
|
I've just filled up and like a plonka, put 2.88 ltrs of petrol in my tank before seeing the dressed green nozel in my hand.
I brimmed the tank with diesel on top 75.6 ltrs and would like to ask if I'll be ok as long as I fill the tank correctly on half a tank for a while to disperse the petrol?

Don't worry, I once filled my Range Rover Sport with at least 10 gallons of petrol and drove it home before I realised, all the dash lights came and the engine run like a three legged donkey.
I drained the tank filled it with diesel and added 500ml of 2so, it never made any difference to the running and I had it for a couple of years and towed an 8 metre tintent with no problems.

Hi,
Haven't done this to a D3, but 10 years ago I put 5 litrs unleaded into my 07 Vectra 150. Topped up with 45 litrs of diesel and shook it up beforestarting the engine, then brimmed after 50 then 100 miles.
Vectra had about 15000 miles on it then, hasn't missed a beat and now has 108000miles on it.
Hopefully you have the same trouble free future.

Fortunately, petrol floats on top of diesel.
With such a small quantity of petrol, keep brimming the tank and do so for the next 2,000 miles to give the petrol a nice long time to splash around and eventually mix with the diesel before risking running anywhere near low. I wouldn’t let it go under 3/4’s of a tank for at least 1,000 miles. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

Forgot to add, a slug of 2 stroke oil mixed in will fend off any detrimental effects due to lack of lubricity of petrol. This is the usual reason for hefty repair bill after running on petrol. 01 Discovery2 V8 LPG - Resting

Not only me then!!
Biggest problem I had was getting rid of about 90lts of petrol/diesel mix. Would have been easier if I had not drained it myself!!

We used to hardware, as it saved us lighting a 20ltr drum 1/4 filled with diesel and shuving it under the unit to unfreeze it.
Oh happy times
