How long do disc & pads last

Hi.
Last September I have front & rear disc, pads replaced. I've done 8000 since then and now I get steering wheel wobble when braking, doesn't matter if its heavy braking or just a tap.

I've been back to the garage I used, and they told me all the disc and pads are now Censored . You can see that they are Censored too. I went to an LR specialist and they told me the disc and pads should last at least 12 months.

I was wondering how long they should last as I am pretty annoyed at having to replace them all again.

Any advise would be very helpful.

Thank You

It depends on how you drive, I get about 25 -30k out of the pads on my D4. My old D3's would be lucky to get 20k.

I have found that anything but OEM brake pads and disks do not seem to last, and will inevitably start to buckle. This causes the wobble you speak of.

You could have a sticky caliper, which would be indicated by the wheel getting hot on a long run. Also, standing at a stop with your foot on the brake, especially on red hot discs can cause a surface degradation where the pad burns to the disk.

Should really be more than 8k miles regardless of brand. Perhaps it would be worse if you bought good pads and bad discs?

I think some cheap non OEM ones are bad, but I know of Pagazi (ECP) ones that have lasted well on a few D3s, and certainly Borg and Beck are ok, there was even a problem with LR ones a few years ago that were warping and people were going through several sets, although I think that was D4.

I wouldn't have thought its a caliper problem as its all 4 not just one or two.

I have Delphi discs on the front but I am using Yellowstuff rather thanDelphi pads.

They are also upgraded to the V8 discs.

They feel fantastic. Lots of stopping power and lots of progressive braking control.

25k on my fronts. Just changed them. Includes about 3k towing a caravan, so not bad.

I have just found the bill for the disc & pads, it was £450. So, I would have liked to think I had decent brakes for that price. Unless I'm wrong and that's cheap.
I always ask for them to fit the correct and best brand or you buy cheap & buy twice etc.

I'm going back to the garage, later on, to complain about it.

Delphi front V8 Brake discs £62

Front calliper £40

Yellowstuff pads £57

+ 2 hours of my time. Well, I'm not very good with tools so it took a while.

No idea how long D3/4 discs and pads last , I replaced fronts on my D2 at 74,000 miles. My neighbor now has this car 147,000 on the clock still on pads I put on. All my cars did high miles before any brake changes required. I see cars speeding up to Islands last minute brake lights on, if the driver took his or her foot of the gas sooner not so much breaking required. I also tow Rolling with laughter a heavy caravan 4,000 miles a year. And I don't drive slow. Thumbs Up

On one of my D3's less than 8k before wobble started on Britpart dics - fitted genuine LR discs and pads, no more wobble.

On last D4, even after replacing with genuine discs and pads and having wheel bearings replaced I still kept getting the shakes back after about 4k miles. (I think I had 3 sets of discs and pads and gave up in the end and swapped the car) On current D4 from new, now at 35k miles and front pads only about 2/3rds worn (checked at the weekend). rear pads replaced last Nov at 28k.

I’ve got LR original V8 pads and disks. They were put in at 173k km. There was plenty left at last checkup (around 210k km), probably can drive with them to 225-230 k km or so.. converted to miles it sounds like a reasonable figure.

Brembo discs and Trw pads fitted 13months ago, 17' KM. No rust (painted before fitted) no warp or anything. 1-2mm worn discs. Not measured the pads, but not much gone off them.
Will definitely buy the same next time.
