Britpart "OEM" AMK Compressor Kits |
|
Anyone had any experience with the AMK "OEM" compressor kits Britpart are doing?
I need to replace my compressor and the OEM kit looks almost identical to the genuine LR kit, just £180 cheaper. The only difference I can see from the photos is that the genuine one comes with the plastic cover attached and whilst the OEM kit includes the plastic cover, it needs to be assembled.
I can get the OEM kit from John Craddock for £435+VAT https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rov...rover.html. I'm looking at about £600+VAT for a genuine kit.
I'm tempted by the saving but my Hitachi compressor has only lasted about 12 months and I want to make sure I don't buy a dud again.

If your Hatachi has only lasted 12 months something is wrong, if it was genuine LR it would have come with 12 months warranty regardless of who fitted it. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

The Hitachi one was fitted by the shady dealer who sold me the car, i've no idea if it was genuine or reconditioned. I've also had a valve block replaced about 9 months ago. There could be another leak somewhere i guess.
I'll have a proper look on ebay this afternoon, but a quick search turned up a genuine one for 485+VAT, . Disco_Mikey - don't suppose you have a link for the ones for £405???

OEM AMK or AMK "type" compressor? |
|
Hi
There seems to be genuine OEM AMK compressors marketed by Britpart for about £380 (£630 with Hitachi to AMK conversion kit) available from Britpart dealers.
Then there are the AMK "type" compressors for about £220 (£380 with Hitachi to AMK conversion kit) these are available on eBay and other places including one of this site's sponsers.
A big price difference! What exactly is an AMK "type" compressor?
A clone?
A conterfeit?
Who makes the AMK "type"? Are they any good?
Or do AMK just badge the same piece of kit and ask more for it?
Has anybody any experiences of the non-OEM AMK type compressors?
By the way my original Hitachi compressor lasted 13 years/85000 miles.
Is that a record?

Well mine is still working and will raise/lower suspension OK BUT the suspension amber warning light is now coming on intermitantly and generating the error "Pressure increases too slowly when filling reservoir".
I think it is time to replace it before it packs up entirely. 2005 SE Manual Cairns Blue

I suspect that you've got a hairline crack in the dryer cap between the pipe outlets. spray some soapy water on the cap when the compressor is running. I had the 'pressure rising too slowly' a couple of years ago so popped another cap on and still going strong.

It’s a copy of the AMK. Little noisy in operation, reliability remains to be seen...
the Arnott unit from AF, with a lifetime warranty seems to good to be true, but worth looking at My D3 Build Thread

Hi
Thanks for the info.
AF seem to be listing just the "bare" Arnott units just now - not the kit.
What they are offering is a AMK "type" compressor complete kit - Bearmach branded with a 3 year warranty.
The Arnott compressors are listed as "Genuine AMK part" but not the Bearmach.
The Arnott unit now only has a 2 year warranty - the "life warranty" seems to have gone!
With a Hitachi to AMK conversion kit Bearmach units come in at about £380 which is a really good price.
Still looking for somebody offering the Arnott compressor complete with conversion kit.
Plenty offering the compressor on its own for about £400
They seem to be also used in the VW/Audi range.
There seems to be two versions of the AMK unit and they seem to need different software upgrades.
Not sure which version of the software the AMK type" and Arnott versions of the units need.
All very complicated!
It would be simpler to put in a Hitachi clone for £200?

I have just tried to "soapy water" test. Not a huge lot of bubbles but there might be some small bubbles so I have dried it and put some epoxy putty between the pipes where it normally cracks.
Will give it a few hours to cure and see what happens and report back.

I am gutted. Had a new compressor (genuine LR £550) put in in April 2016 the bloody this has gone again and is now out of warranty by 2 months. Garage who installed it have been really good and offered to fit a new one FOC and £500 for the part but not sure what I should do car has done nearly 200k so was thinking of getting a cheap compressor. If anyone has a recommendation that would be great. I could fit it myself as doesn’t seem to be too difficult but don’t have a reader to clear the faults. Thanks

AMK Compressor Mounting holes/lugs |
|
The OEM AMK compressor kit (Britpart - supplied by Paddocks) arrived today - old compressor now off - yes the captive bolts sheared.
Looking at my compressor none of the mounting holes either for the rubber mounting or for the temperature sensor strap are threaded though bolts etc are supplied.
Strange I would have thought for £620 they could have threaded the holes!
Looks like I will need to tap the holes before I can go any further or do the bolts supplied cut their own threads?
Apart from that the kit looks fine -its not assembled i.e. the compressor is not mounted on the bracket etc.
Is this the normal way they come?
