Broken engine
TDV6 175k miles
I pulled this engine apart to try and work out the cause of death. A thick layer of sludge on the under tray says it had an oil leak. The sump pickup seems to be significantly restricted, and the oil filter was disintegrating.
Judging by the broken metal, I assume engine rpm was high at the time of failure. Lack of lubricant caused extreme heat and bearing seizure, then momentum crunched all the loose pieces.
Premature end to an engine that was probably good for many more miles with a little maintenance.
