Tdv6-head gasket and injector issues |
|
Hi guys.
so I’ve bought another headache.
this one is a 2005 tdv6....purchased with a known suspect head gasket problem......this one is pressurising in the expansion tank.
yesterday when it was delivered with a very flat battery I got it running for a couple of minutes and it sounded fine with no lights on the dash, but it did pressurise straight away.
I had the battery on charge all night and while cranking stayed well over 12 volts.
the engine cranked over for ages, then finally fired up but extremely lumpy (maybe 3 cylinders) and wouldn’t Rev over 2k.
icarsoft gives codes of
p020a
P020b
P020c
injection timing codes.
so do you think the head gasket and injector codes are the same or different issues.
what can I try please guys?
Many thanks

Leave the coolant cap off.
If it’s still rough after 2 minutes of running , I would think you have 2 issues

Must be head gasket(s). In your case it seems the chambers had dried out when it ran smoothly, leaving water in them which caused rough running next day.
I was watching two D3's just sold on Ebay with the same problem/symptoms. Different sellers I think, but both local and only a few miles apart. Chris

Is it possible the OBD codes point to cylinder numbers rather than firing order? If so it may be pointing you to the bank with the gasket problem, and suggesting that all cylinders that side are leaking to the coolant jacket. Maybe...

Likely the engine was at running temperature last time in use with the obvious problem, perhaps back in warm summer weather. No chance of coolant ingress drying out now with engine cold and in winter weather.
So the seller was Simon or Nigel, I guess the latter. Chris
