Rear tail gate handle issue |
|
Good morning all,
I have had an issue with opening the tail gate over the last week. It is not the usual problem with the lock release cable as i have cured this previously with a permanent fix.
When i unlock the car upper tail gate release switch doesn't open the tailgate. No noise from solenoid at all. If i use the lock and unlock buttons on the dash it opens slightly but not fully.
I checked for faults with my IID tool and got this fault.
B1C42-23 (6C) Tailgate release switch 2 General signal failure - signal stays low
Any ideas guys?
Thanks

the symptoms sound exactly like the actuator has stopped having the grunt to pull the lock open

i know what you mean.
Wasn't sure if its maybe signal to the lock to enable actuator to open.

Might be a faulty tailgate switch.
You can verify this by applying a direct feed to the lock. To do this, you need to look under the front passenger seat and locate a block connector with 2 wires, Black/purple for the bottom door and black for the top door. Using a probe (if you have one), push it in to the black cable and apply a quick positive current. This will operate the latch to release the top door only. You can do the same for the black/purple cable to open the lower door. If the switch is faulty, the doors will still open using this method.
If you don't have a probe, just undo the block connector and apply positive feed to the plug going to the rear. Joe

This sounds exactly like the tailgate switch in the handle has failed. Pull the rubber cover out of the switch (you may get drips of water falling out) and look inside. The aluminium rocker may have broken, but that just pushes a microswitch and you can push this physically once the switch has been opened. If that doesn't work you can always remove the whole switch and short the wires to confirm the problem. Cheap replacements are available from eBay. Dave

Get somebody to pull open the tailgate whist you press the 2 dash buttons. Or change your key fob Landrover button for tailgate release. Press the button and pull open the tailgate.
It sounds like your tailgate release switch has gone faulty

Update
All sorted now.
Removed rubber cover off switch and found aluminium lever corroded. Cleaned and lubed and now working perfectly.
Thanks again guys, appreciated your help.
