Selling my D4 what is the safest method of payment
I’m selling my 2015 D4 HSE at the end of the week, normally I part ex my cars so never end up selling them privately. However this time I thought I would have a go at selling privately. As there is going to be a substantial amount of money involved can someone tell me who has done this what is the best method of getting the money for the car. Would it be going to the bank with the purchaser, and getting them to transfer the money direct to my bank account? You here of so many scams, I just don’t want to be on the end of one.
Regards
Dale

You want the buyer to pay the money directly to your account via CHAPS (faster payment would also work but probably has a limit that is too low).MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

I’ve taken my iPad and paid by direct bank transfer in the presence of the seller it comes up with a confirmed screen plus it’s normally instant. Done that up to £30k.
You used to be able to get a bank or building society cheque drawn up, but they charged you a tenner for the privilege off the top of my head.

The banks I use have a daily limit on internet banking - can't remember how much but think it's around £10k so might be a problem depending on the sale price

Paid for mine with BACS, but the limit with NatWest was £20K/day so I had to pay the other 5K with paypal, but that requires extra security confirmations with that. 2014 D4 XS

With my Bank, there doesn’t seem to be a £ limit bar what’s in your account. Ive done Switch for large amounts and it didn’t even flag up for a security phone call. Mind you, now I’ve got one of those calculator type things from the bank for online stuff. You go to direct transfer large money and it tells you to type in some digits into your machine, which then comes back with another code to put in a box online before it will allow you to transfer it.

With the upcoming D5 to pay for I asked Santander what the payment limit was. Apparently they change it every day an keep it a secret. Very secure but also very unhelpful. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Yorkshire Building Society has no limit for online cash transactions. I moved £100k the other day with zero drama. I did have to count the zeros a few times though.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I found with Santander that their daily limit was £10k and I was told that anything larger than £10K would incur questions with regards to money laundering. Although I paid £27K for something on my debit card last year and they didn't even ring me to make sure the transaction was genuine Cheers Ian

Before 'gifting', check what the cover is from PayPal if things go wrong - I'm sure I remember some stuff about people gifting money to avoid charges but then having no comeback on PayPal if there was a dispute.
