Broken control arms

So, two weeks ago I was out in Moab, Utah for the Land Rover National Rally and experienced some clunking noise coming from my Left Rear corner when I went over bumps.

Turns out I had broken not one side, but BOTH left and right upper rear control arms in the same way. Check this out!

Funny, I heard clunking while wheeling on Fins n Things on Thursday and then I did Top of the World on Friday (both very difficult trails), and then drove home 1300 miles. So glad we made it home safely.

Perhaps the orange poly bushings caused too much stress on the system. I've gone with stock bushings as replacements on the uppers now, but leave the orange poly on the bottoms. Of course I had to replace front tie rods again since I just did it the week before the rally, sigh (will someone PLEASE make a Heavy Duty tie rod for D3/D4!!!!). Also replaced some lower spherical bushings or knuckles in the rear end.

I should be good to go for at least another 100 miles or so before something else happens. Wink

OE Range Rover Sport rose type joint instead of standard rubber bush is best for that rear bush. Lasts a lot longer. Also the front bush of that arm is uprated if you fit the OE sport ones too.
