Although not at all similar I have used WD40 for this purpose on my classic cars.
I clean all the wires, distributor cap etc. in the early Autumn & spray with WD40. I repeat the process, without bothering to clean, unless it's very dirty, about 6 months later. Touch wood, to date, I've never had a problem, although I do replace HT cables every 4 or 5 years.
