Trouble shooting front fog lights
Found out the other day the fog lights are not working. Rear ones ok.
Pulled them out and both have heavy signs of corrosion.
Checked the sockets and no power to them.
Checked the fuse (F38 in CJB) and it’s blown.
Temptation is to just whack in a new fuse, but as I’m learning how pernickety they are thought it best to ask her first if there is anything that ought to be ch3cked first.
Don’t want to make things worse!

Check behind the front bumper, I seem to remember that the wiring rubs through on a sharp edge and blows the fuse (as it should)
Instructions for removing the bumper are on the forum....somewhere....maybe in the Wiki.

Personally I’d say that bulb could be your problem. I’d clean the connection going to it and put in a fuse and try turning them on without any bulbs connected. If it doesn’t blow try a new bulb. Otherwise under the driver side headlight there is a connection as well that would narrow down where the fault is. If you want when you are trying without any bulb put as weak a fuse as you can in that way it’ll blow very fast if there is a more serious problem

Yes it would be a lot worse if there was power at the bulb holder and the fuse blown

Looks like its been under water a few times and possibly time to replace them. The cables are held to the bumper (just below one of the screws) with a push in clip. This can be replaced to hold the cable securely

Thanks all.
Guessing it has been under water as well from the look of them.
Will hopefully get the bumper off tomorrow or Thursday to take a look before I go sticking fuses back in.
The socket for the right hand fog lamp seems to keep dropping resistance on continuity tested which has me concerned that the cBles may be eroded.
Given the front parking sensors are a bit flakey, it’s a definite possibility,

When taking the bumper off remove front grill, both headlights and both front wheel arch flares. Makes it easier to get at bolts and screws

If you’ve read any of my other threads, you’ll already know I had the battery out today.
Whilst I was at it, took a look in the fuse box.
I might be being daft here, but the electrical diagrams clearly suggest there is a front fog lamp relay.
Now, looking at the fuse box map
But the fuse box itself
should there not be a relay in there? Or am I looking in the wrong place?
I know I have a blown fuse, but still won’t work without the relay.

There should be a relay, maybe it was removed to stop wire burning up or it may have been used elsewhere when something else broke down and they figured they could do without foglights

nope. None had that relay.
Was designed in just incase it was needed
One designer thinking another designer was mad I expect.

Damn ..... wished I’d seen this earlier.
Spent the day stripping the bumper off and then testing the wiring harness to death. Managed to snap the head off one of the underside bumper bolts in the process. They were all remarkably corroded, so lucky I didn’t snap more.
It all seems ok, and no sign of the harness rubbing against anything.
Cleaned it all up,
Put it all back.
Replaced the blown fuse and I have fog lights again!
So, where on earth is this relay?

Good that it’s all working again, so all that was wrong was the blown fuse, did you re use the bulbs or fit new ones?

They looked ok so I reused them,
But everything was pretty heavily corroded so I cleaned it all down with a wire brush.
