New hubs now three amigos |
|
Well fitted two new front hubs today.
Job was relatively straight forward with only a few stubborn bolts.
Anyway.... all finished and wheels back on for test ride, and have special programs off
Is it likely to be related to a fault with the abs sensors?
I do recall using heat on one bolt near to the offside sensor as that would come out of its housing so left it in situ.... no obvious damage that I can see.
Any Ideas?
thanks

You need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor after tinkering and replacing steering or suspension components.
Fail to do it ( like you ) and you'll open up a world of all sorts of warnings and bells and whistles.
You might even require a full wheel alignment but do the calibration first. Mods:

Does it fail straight away or after being driven for a short distance, abs sensor could be, was the reluctor ring clean and not damaged.?

The warnings appear straight away upon starting.
The offside abs sensor appeared grubby when first removed but cleaned before refitting.
Please forgive my ignorance but what kit will I need to perform the recalibration is it the iidtool?
Thanks

If it comes on right away then its not the steering angle sensor. more likely to be the abs system.

Did you check the reluctor ring on the drive shaft to make sure its not damaged or clogged up with dirt and rust.?

Morning Flack.... yes no damage just residual rust flakes from when I had hammered the old hub out.
These were cleared before reassemble.
I’ll have another look When the sensors arrive as il have to remove the carrier again to replace, at least the bolts will hopefully come out a bit easier this time! 🤞
Thanks

Well quick update....
In between showers and downpours I have now managed to fit my new abs sensor which I’m pleased today has now also fixed the three amigos.
Old sensor was stubborn and broke off in the hub, so had to very carefully drill it out without damaging the reluctor ring. It took a while but finally removed cleaned and new sensor fitted.
Whilst car was out of use I also removed the compressor (see other thread) and replaced the dryer cap with a new aluminium cap. This has also now fixed the “normal ride height only” message and is now fully functional again with no warnings.
Finally adjusted my park brake as well which was beginning to get a little noisy.
All in all very happy and I have a quiet running D3 again.... well for now anyway!
Thanks to all who offered advice and support
