breather pipe from auto gearbox

Hello all,

my friendly mechanic has just called because he has made a silly mistake and has pulled the breather pipe from the automatic gearbox out and doesn't know where it goes to.

Can anyone tell me where the other end connects to. One and connect to the gearbox (of course), but where is the OTHER end?

Many thanks.

Nick

Top of the gearbox if you look at the below photo. Just below the cross over. It’s push fit

Thanks, but what I need is to actually know where the OTHER end of the pipe is. Wink

I believe they just end at the top of the engine. Mine were missing on my car so I just extended them to the engine bay.

the other end is behind the right side engine head.

THere are 2 silver breather pipes there.

I can see them in the top right of this photo

Well... Today was NOT a good day.

The mechanic called... He needed my help to reset the transmissions adaptions, so i dropped by after work to do it for him with IID tool.

On getting there, he tells me that there is an engine error. I checked, and the EGR valve is giving a high error. It is Sibe B. Which side would thag be? UK driver's or passenger's side?

He then pointed to the top of the door frame and said that he had an accident when raising the ramp, and they squashed the top of the door.
It is slightly dented, and will need painting!!

Then he told me thag he hadn't put the breather pipe back at all even though i had told him where it went. I have told him thag he has to put it back!!!!

He then showed me a mount that is below cross-over pipe. He didn't pug it back and he says that it doesn't actually DO anything, so it would cause any problem by not being there. Do you agree??

To cut a long story short... I am now waiting to get the D3 back and will certainly NOT be going back to him again. I am not impressed!!

It is a shame... He has been really good up till now, but maybe he is getting old!!!

I honestly feel you pain. Have a read through my thread about my disco. I’m on my second body off ! The breather has to go back !

Also the bracket for the cross over is essential otherwise the vibration will cause it to crack and swapping that pipe is not only expensive but very difficult.

My advise, get another mechanic. This one sounds incompetent.

I told him to put the breather pipe back. He isn't happy, but he has said he will have to do it.

I have just told him to put the bracket back as well.

He is normally very good, but i think he is getting old and tired (officially he is retired) and consequently i won't be going back to him!!

I have sent him a message this morning telling him to out my car back in to the condition it was in when i delivered it to him.

He is not a nasty chap, so i think that he will do it, but i doubt that he will be happy, and i doubt he will agree to do any work for me again.

Shame as he does know his stuff regarding gearboxes!!
