DUMB QUESTION - jacking and drop links

I have spotted that my rear drop links are disconnected on both side. Jacking up the car I can lift the car no problem but the rear wheel stays on the ground. Is it that I am jacking in the wrong place or not high enough or is it because the links would help lift the wheel if they were attached Question Question ?

Disco 3 2005 2.7 diesel automatic

Thanks

I was surprised how high the car has to go to get the wheels of the ground. I bought a Halfords 3 ton trolley jack and it just about manages it with a 43cm lift but all good using the correct jacking point.

Next challenge is to remove the rusted on broken links. One bolt easy enough with careful angle grinding the other one looks a challenge.
