Which Ride Height Sensor😂 - C1a04
Dear Collective Hive,
Had a suspension fault which went away after a restart - c1a04. The sensor looked ok when checking the front Right sensor.
Today, the better half came out to the rear left fully on the floor. 🫣.
I’m now in finding mode to see what the problem is. I can test for leaks on the rear air block and the rear strut, but as the suspension will move up to off road height and hold (I’ve taken both Fuses out 3 and 26 and the solenoid), I’m in 24 hour waiting mode now.
My question to the more experienced on here is, does a crap sensor cause that wheel (with the faulty sensor) to self level down or could it cause another wheel (in my case the rear left), to self level to the floor, but that sensor being a good one?

What made you suspect the FR sensor? What does the 4x4 info screen look like. It often gives hints to a faulty sensor.
Do you have a diagnostic tool to check readings? You can also unplug and test the sensor to see if it's generating the right voltage range across its travel.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Thanks for the reply. I followed the advice from the C1a04 code from my icarsoft. 4x4 screen looks normal, but I’ll keep an eye on it if it happens again and go straight to that screen to see what’s moving when the height is changing.
I’ll try and see if I can get live readings from the icarsoft, but what should I be looking for in a multi reader, as I have ‘carefully’ managed to clean up all the connectors with contact cleaner, after freeing them up with brake cleaner and WD40.

If you do a search on here there are threads on how to test the sensor across its range. I think the expected range is 0-5V. You can disconnect it and exercise it manually to check the output varies as expected. Check it's getting the right supply voltage too.
Be very careful to support the vehicle when working on the suspension as it can drop suddenly.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Thanks, As you recommend, I always jack up and support when working on the suspension.
On start up I’m getting the Access height and the Normal height both lit up on the selector (without any selections being made). When I press for normal height, the car moves up a little bit and settles at normal height. Overnight, it didn’t move at all, so definitely something going on with self levelling and sensors. I’ve got some readings, but they are all a bit off, apart from the supply values which are a solid 4.90v.

Might just replace all 4 and get a calibration 🫣😂

Further update. Whole rear on the floor this morning and ‘Suspension Fault’ on display. Car was in ‘Extended’ mode. It asked me, ‘Once clear of Obstacle, Press brake and raise for 3 seconds’. I eventually managed to get it to normal height by turning off and immediately selecting Normal height, as it was showing the Access and Normal at the same time again.

Fault codes came back as front right sensor and compressor pressure problem.

2 sensors ordered (Rear one just in case the fault comes back and it was the side which was lowered first) and a dryer bead service kit (before I start looking at reservoirs and compressors themselves).
Also ordered an IID tool to calibrate the suspension when I change the sensor.
Still baffles me as to why the rear of the car would lower when it’s a front sensor at fault. I would have thought that a faulty sensor would be discarded by the 3 other good ones in the brain of the Disco.

Hi,
Changed the Front right height sensor. A Eurospare one (Usually Britpart), which came with the bracket, but didn’t need it for the front right. Put the jack under the car to stop it falling, turned the wheel, so I could get to the sensor and undid the bolts and then it was a simple change. IID tool to calibrate the suspension.
A fault did come back of the compressor not filling the reservoir fast enough, so Normal height only available, so I am about to change the dryer beads and see if that works. If not, then it’ll be another AMK compressor and then after that trying to change out reservoir or air blocks.
