Maintenance & Protection/Prevention on new purchase

Hi
If my new purchase (2006 V8 HSE) passes the equivalent of an MOT tomorrow I should be able to complete the sale (it was conditional on them getting a full safety certificate)

Assuming this happens, what would you suggest I look at in terms of preventative maintenance on the vehicle?

I will do my own 'MOT' style check of Brakes, engine oil & filter change and try to get it booked in for rust proofing/undercoating

I am reasonably comfortable with a spanner and happy to have a go at most jobs (I have classic Lotus so used to doing a bunch of work myself at home)

without specialist equipment, what can/can't I reasonably be expected to do myself? This isn't my only vehicle for the family so not the end of the world if a job takes a day or two to complete

any advice would be great

Thanks

If it has a known service history figure out what’s been done against the maintenance sheet and go from there.

Might be useful to take a look at the brake pads and discs. As you’re in Canada the coolant is probably good enough since I assume it starts this time of the year. Whistle

Generally “people” don’t seem to change front/rear diff, transfer box nor gearbox fluids. I’m in favor of megaflushing the gearbox but there are other schools of thought, too.

Cabin and engine air filters are cheap, I’d change them anyway unless they’ve been changed very recently.

Since you have a V8 the t-piece (part of the coolant system) can become brittle as it’s plastic.

If there is any kind of clunking sounds when driving over uneven terrain or potholes it most likely means one or more of the bushes is worn out.
