Coolant bleed screw
Hi, anyone had the the bleed screw on the expansion tank come loose? Ours was showing low coolant the other day so I had a look under the bonnet gave it slight tweak and it blew off, the engine was hot by the way. It wouldn’t thread back in properly, I wound some ptfe tape round and all was good, until today when it blew off just as my wife pulled onto the drive. Is this a common fault?

I run mine with the radiator cap loose and it causes no issues as I do with my other vehicles.
I think 15psi in the cooling system puts too much stress on seals hoses etc.
I know it's designed for it and the idea behind pressurising the system is to raise the boiling point and allow the use of smaller radiators.
As I said I've run my D3 like it for 8 years not even having to top it up.
Jim.

I had my bleed screw leaking and as the ambient air temp. was 39C, I decided not to tighten as I was concerned as its plastic it would strip or shear off. Very early ones didn't have a seal so it was changed to the later version with one.
