Good practice or not? (Brakes) |
|
Had a sudden stuck caliper on the motorway yesterday. Vibration and smell, oulled over, very hoy NSR brakes. Got a screwdriver and prised the brakes apart as best I could and the rest of the journey was fine, and home again.
Now, I had front calipers 18 months ago, and the rears do look a bit passed thier best (inspected and greased this morning) so I think I am just going to buy 2 x new rear calipers.
Just wondered if it was best practice to buy new slider pins as well while I am doing it?
Any advice?
Thanks

What you experienced was most likely the hand brake not releasing properly. It will be a bit overcooked now and probably needs the disc and shoes replacing. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price! - So good I bought another!
MY2012 D4 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - retired to a new home

You are probably right. I will dial gauge the discs next week and see if discs etc need doing.
