Am I mad to be considering this?
Greetings from New Zealand.
I'm looking for some advice and input please from you regarding this....
It's an 07 D3 with all the G4 goodies. Done 250,000K's and in ok condition for the year and mileage, except..... the motor has spun an bearing or broken crank. Usual story for a 2.7 TDv6.
It's actually the second time this car has broken the crank, the engine was changed once before.
I have history with D3 and this as I had a 06 that broke not long after 200,000k's too
So, the questions are? Do I but this and sink probably the same as purchase price fixing it?
If I do fix, rebuild motor or swap for another one with less K's.
Obviously you would do belts while engine is out but what else would you do while you could?
EGR blank off, trans check and new torque converter.
I'd love to put a TDv8 in there like Mikey is doing but down here there just isn't the range of independent LR specialists like you have in UK.
Can you retro fit a 3.0V6? Would you want to??
Or should I abandon the whole idea and buy a different D3 and add roof rack, winch etc?
Ultimately it needs to be a daily driver, tow a horse float and take us hunting to some pretty rugged country including river crossings.
Thoughts and input please?

If you rebuild I imagine you would fit new timing belt and auxiliary belt. But definitely fit the later type oil pump. Over here we fit the Citroen/Peugeot pump as it is the same but about half the price of one supplied by LR. Was the second engine that broke its crank recon or second hand?
I suppose whether you rebuild or scrap is a matter of personal choice. The rest of the Disco looks to be in pretty good shape.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

You don’t have to be mad but it sure helps.
As Gareth sez, you know what you’re getting into so why not.

It comes down to dollars and cents - what would it be worth with a good engine in it minus the cost of a replacement engine and labour. That's it true value.

Probably similar to cost to buy another good runner with say 125k miles and just swap all the bits over and sell existing for parts.

Consider swapping motor for a 2.7 out of a Ford Territory [https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/231168-comprehensive-guide.html?231168=#post2483119rl][/url]
