D3 TDV6 injector restricted

Hi, as I am rather new to this specific Diesel engine. I need some help from the more experienced mechanics here.

I have a spontaneous knock in the engine of my rather freshly bought TDV6 D3 (build 05, but MY06)
I blocked the EGR, did take it for a test drive, all went ok for about, 5 miles, and then a knock, rather loud tbh

Home again, I plugged in my IID and it confirmed there is a injector malfunction.

I hope it is not dirt, causing this, but before I can check that, I like to know which injector is malfunctioning..

This is what IID reads

Am I right in the presumption that it is cilinder 3? Or should I read here, injector 3?

Or... is it just “a” injector is restricted and I have to check it otherwise?

Any advise would be appreciated
 Best regards
Harold

could be serious Sad

I would do a compression test (remove injectors and insert tester)

Hi PeteK,

Thanks for your reply.

This is a good idea.. but I do not have a compression tester, for that kind of injector hole..
And driving towards a workshop with this issue, is also not preferable...

I will have a thought about it how to arrange something..
If I find one, just unplug the hp fuel pump relay? before starting?

just Before I blanked the EGR, the IID did read:

Cylinder 1 balance - fuel trim at max limit...
And
Cylinder 3 balance - fuel trim at minimum limit..

So cyl 1 & 3 changed places..

But no mention of blocked or restricted injector ...
 Best regards
Harold

Try injector live values at tick over (750rpm) only and post the results.

 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Yeah, thought about that, but do not want to start it before I had a look at the injector..

I do know the sequence, but still do not know if IID is really pointing at cylinders (or injectors)
And.. does it regarding restricted injector , pointing at cylinder 3 or is that not “to see”
And just a general indication?
(Ofcourse I will check them all if I find dirt on the now faulty one)
 Best regards

I guess you would remove the fuel pump fuse, but there would still be a lot of diesel around at high pressure that you would need to collect first.

you used to be able to get these for compression tests, that you hold in place

I guess you can remove the SM relay and connect to the 87 terminal and direct to battery +

Check car isn’t in gear.

I can do that.... maybe I will..

And.. does it regarding restricted injector , pointing at cylinder 3 or is that not “to see”
And just a general indication?

Someone who know’s?

I think it’s cylinders.

Check cylinder 3

Because the offsets are all over the place it’s probably restricting injection
