Well that's another first for us - Snapped bearing cap

As you may know, we see a lot of snapped cranks here. But I've never had a snapped main bearing cap before.

The end result was a ruined block and bent crank. Sad

Don't forget, the snapped crank sweepstake ends soon... https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/snapped-cra...78012.html

Do you think this engine had been apart before?

Nope. Owner has had the car from new and no other work has been done.

The only other thing wrong is that injectors 2 & 5 did not pass inspection.

so given there has been some comment about failing or incorrect injectors contributing to snapped cranks and now a snapped bearing cap, is there something to be had in checking/replacing injectors more frequently?

Just a thought

I was thinking the same, are there any early signs that your injectors may be starting to fail?

It certainly won't hurt, especially on a 2.7 as they are at least 10+ yrs old.

But some of these (especially 3.0s) have failed at quite low mileages. If worn injectors were a significant cause wouldn’t you expect the failures to be almost all at higher mileage?

Seen cranks fail at sub 30k. Can't see injectors being a huge contributory factor...
