Transmission Fault - Traction Reduced

I have the above alert & hopefully will get the codes read at the weekend.

One possible culprit could be the brake light switch, but would this still occur before the brake pedal is depressed?

Thanks Thumbs Up

It depends on where the failure within the switch has occurred, but the basic answer to your question is yes. Unlike brake switches of yore, when you only had two cables pos and neg. Modern vehicles require much more complex arrangements. The D3/4 are particularly susceptible to this as the brake switch needs to communicate with the vehicles multiple and complex ECU's. ABS, TC, DSC, PCM, TCM, LCM, etc, etc.

If there is a brake switch signal failure to any one of the control modules, then many or all others will be affected too as they all work by sharing info.

And so its "All toys out of the pram" time Big Cry

Tip: Keep a spare in the glove box, its a cheap easy and quick fix if it does pack up Thumbs Up

Also can happen if the battery is a little low, I get it if car has been sat for a while, I just let it run for a bit, turn off go back and it’s gone

Have been getting this message for a while but everything works as it should when out Greenlaning etc. Since the cold weather arrived I got other lights appearing on the dash now and then until last week when the car refused to start as the battery was flat as a pancake (I had not been used for a couple of weeks). Took it to my local Indy who diagnosed a goosed battery, a new one was fitted and all is well so far, no “transmission fault traction reduced” message. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies chaps, I'll get a switch ordered.

Battery is only 6 months old, charged it after fitting...probably not since, so will give that a go too.

Thumbs Up

Well...had it serviced by a local garage (not a Land Rover Indy) who also fitted the new brake switch but reckons the old one was ok.
He found a couple of wires that looked like they'd be chewed by mice under the car that were transmission related and he spliced them.
Car was fine for a mile then lit up like a Christmas tree and suspension lowered. (Transmission Fault)
Took it back - said the it was reading the same faults about contacting the transmission and he could do no more.
I'm going to give it a hard reset tonight.

Anyone know of a Land Rover specialist nearish Bromley/Sidcup?

Beadles can't fit it in till the 30th £££

Thanks.
