Importing a 5.0 V8 Disco 4 from Oz (or SA)
Is it possible to import an Australian (or South African) RHD Disco 4 V8 into the UK? Anyone done it? My Disco 3 V8 is getting a bit long in the tooth and it would be quite a fun thing to do. Thoughts?

Can't help with your question, sorry. But, out of interest though, why? Surely you could just buy one locally? Or were D4 V8's not sold within the UK?
On a side note, when we were looking for our D4 to buy, there weren't many D4 V8's for sale. If I recall they were twice the price new of the base model D4 and an additional 1/3rd more than the TDV6 HSE model so were not a big seller over here!Mine - modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

I don’t think the D4 was ever officially available here with the V8 engine, ISTR the V8 left the party late into D3 production.

Not imported a Disco but I did import a Defender from Japan.
The process was reasonably simple but a gamble sending money to an unknown. In your case I would think the numbers are even higher.
Shipping was all sorted by the buyer which included insurance.
Prior to collection at your chosen dock you will need to pay HMRC their bit which amounts to approx 30% of the sale price - 20% vat, 10% duty. The vehicle will then need to be trailered away and taken for an MOT in order to start the UK registration process. I think on newer cars such as yours it will also require type approval. Once these criteria have been met you can then apply for registration which requires a further fee of approx £80.

You can drive to a MoT test and /or Type approval testing without being registered , but that is all. I have just registered a motorcycle from USA but it had already been imported and had its NOVA from HMRC

That's right but it does mean you have to collect from docks and drive to Mot station. You then run the risk of it failing MOT then having to either leave it there or trailer it away. Collection day from the docks is stressful enough without having the hassle of MOT and being stopped by the law.

Was looking at this last week. Would you not be as well to buy a disco here with blown crank and bring an engine in ?

Very possibly, but with the differences in engine + box, wiring looms, fuel pump/pipes, modules etc, I expect it's cheaper and easier to import a complete runnerMy D3 Build Thread

I always found it rather frustrating that V8 right hand drive D4s were being assembled approx 100 miles from my front door to be exported half way around the world, but I couldn’t get my hands on one myself Discovery 4 HSE

Not so much a random example, that looks to be the only D4 V8 for sale currently in Australia.
CarSales is the more popular website and it only has that one listed https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/?q=(And.Y...inders.8.) .
When we were looking for our D4 there was one with 220,000km on it and they were asking $25,000.00 with ARB bullbar and a few other nice goodies attached.Mine - modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P
