Rotary Gear Change Assembly
Had my D4 stolen 2 weeks ago and will be looking at a replacement as soon as insurance sort it out..
All the newer models have these and I really hate the popup rotary gear changer thingy - real pain then your bogged and trying to rock your way back and forth..
Might sound silly but has anyone modified theirs back to a traditional gear level assembly from an earlier D4 (or even D3)?
Can it even be done?

Sorry to hear your D4 was stolen
I did hear of a disreputable person being in Perth recently but I guess that may be too far even for him to go to strip a D4 Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

The rotary gear selector is really not that bad once you get used to it. It takes a little while but then it becomes second nature.

Be interesting to see if anyone has modified theirs back to a traditional gear level assembly ?
I would imagine quite a few would like to change back to a gear shift including me
I’m sure the us spec has a traditional lever Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

Having got used to drive select (rotary gear selector) I now much prefer it to the electronic gear stick that is now fitted to RR Sport, Discovery Sport and Evoque.

Me too. I was sceptical at first after driving 2 x D3 for 6 years before my D4 came along. I would not go back to a lever now.
My F Type has the same stubby lever as the RRS and whilst it suits the sporty nature of the car, you have to be very precise with the changes. If you don’t press the trigger properly before you try to move the lever between D and R, it just goes to neutral. In my opinion if you were in a D4 and trying to rock your way out of trouble, it would be terrible.

No, not with the paddles.
Slightly OT, but is the rotary gear unit the same on the RRS as the D4 (year for year) and do both also have paddles?
(The lights are out on mine and I see a RRS one for sale- unit looks the same, but one has a yellow paper dot, the other a blue dot) I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Paddles will change gears up/down not between froward / reverse.
I have had the D4 for over a year and just can’t get used to it. I have had a gear lever for the last 40yrs and now find myself grabbing thin air on occasions - much to the amusement of my wife.
The rotary selector is just a bunch of Micro Switches - replicating that on a gear lever should not be an issue.
May have just found my next project..
