Ridiculous Service Cost ... Help Me!

My Disco had a service pack with it - and so I’m about to pay for my first service with the pack no longer active...

I have to get a proper service done as I extended my warranty and it’s void if I don’t get a service done with official parts. I know I can go with an Indy but would ideally use LR as I’m used to them.

They’ve said it’s the “96,000 service” - despite the car having less than 70k - “an age thing” apparently.

Anyway; £717 Big Cry

I asked what it includes as maybe it’s some big thing; but no... just filters and oil change etc. Pathetic.

Are they having me on???

LR offer fixed priced servicing.
https://www.landrover.co.uk/ownership/serv...icing.html
So servicing a D4 from an approved dealer should cost £360 & £495 dependant on type of service.
Not aware that this has ceased.

Thanks chaps!

Yes; £500 is what I’d thought it would be.

Where have they got £717 from?? For changing filters...

I’ll be calling them tomorrow and asking for an explanation.

Make sure they have put it on the system to get the +3 year old service fixed price, not all main dealers participated in the scheme, i know mine does and they said they had registered mine to get this.

DO NOT gamble on anyone if they are not VAT registered if you have a warranty.

A friend did with his 12 plate sport, garage was a decent one he had used on previous cars, but not VAT registered (he didn't realise at the time). A few weeks later his turbo went, LR and the LR warranty just turned their back on him, that was the first £2500 down the pan. A few weeks after getting that fixed and paying for the belt change his crankshaft snapped........ it really isn't worth the gamble, even if they did want £700.

Is it a city centre garage? There is one is Glasgow who is twice the price of those around the suburbs, may be worth a short drive, book early and ask for a courtesy car

Have you tried ringing other dealers, that is the normal first port of call and then go back to your dealer with the other prices and watch their price drop

Only works if the other dealers are not part of the same distributor. I had this with my wife B-Class. I couldn't play the dealers off against each other because they were all owned by the same distributor so it was one price and no negotiation. Not happy and very anti competitive.

Strange thing is I’ve played one dealer off against another in the same dealership when buying a new car and got it nearly £3k cheaper. Parks, Inverness v. Parks, Ayr.

The Ayr one got the order. I mentioned it to the Inverness DP and he said he couldn’t do it for that price.

Later he told me that he’d broached the subject of discounts with the Parks Directors and they simply said there wasn’t any. He was gob smacked about the whole thing. Strange as I had to pass their door to collect it from Ayr.

Moral of the story, just ask, no matter car or service, you never know.

Might it have been that yours was the extra car that they needed to reach some kind of volume bonus and the additional discount was financed that way?

There are three branches of Taggarts within 20 miles in Glasgow, all have totally different prices both for buying and servicing

TVLR are very good but their prices are the same as a main dealer these days Rolling Eyes

I realise that some are tied with the dealer servicing for their warranties, but I struggle with the cost for a service, especially given that oil/filter and general parts costs are so inflated, and I would bank on the fact that they never go thro' the so-called list of things they check properly.

The average DIY guy can do an oil change, with filter in about 30mins max. That's with a fuel filter change too.

Brakes take a little longer, but I've heard tales of supposed dealer serviced cars have EPB issues, and these sound like they've been neglected at the inspection.

The dealers just rely on the unknowing and non mechanically competent customer.

No wonder the Indy's have a loyal following with fair and reliable work for fair money.
