D4 on lockdown
Because of the lockdown I connected my D4 up to the ctek, put it on SORN and not started (or driven) it for around 5 to 6 weeks.
So now got a couple of observation:
1) I parked it up with suspension set at the normal setting.
But now it's hunkering on its bump stops.
I do suspect that if/when I fire it up, it'll raise itself to normal height.
But never having my D3 or D4s off he road for this period, is this normal?
2) The brake discs braking surfaces are now covered in light rust.
One of my lockdown projects is to paint the brake hubs, so whilst in there I'll give the discs some attention.
Was looking to clean them up with just a rag and petrol, but anyone got a better recommendation?
Also any tips for keeping them rust free when parked up ...... without smearing them in grease.

I wouldn’t use petrol. It will leave a residue. Use brake cleaner. There is not a lot you can do to stop rust on the disks. It should come off on first brake application though so don’t worry.

Hi Ron.
My D3 is the same re the suspension (not driven since 1st April). It’s the same when I come back from 2 weeks holiday - suspension raises and normal service is resumed.

Bilt Hamber produce a product called Atom Mac which is perfect for spraying on the discs to prevent rusting.

Just take it for a short run and the brakes will clean themselves. It will also help to prevent other items from 'taking a set'.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Longest I ever left mine was 3.5 weeks, slight drop.

I know the discs will clean up once I drive it, but can't do just now as already pointed out it's on SORN.
Was just concerned that the longer I leave it then the more chance of rust starting to 'pit' them.
Was going to use petrol, as in lockdown I can't go and buy brake cleaner, but now won't because of residue it'll leave (Gareth - )
However I just recalled that I have brake cleaner for my mountain bike discs, so will use that.
Oh and I never leave the epb on when parked up, even just overnight!
Went out and fired it up the other day and suspension got off its hunkers and went to normal height.
Though I decided now to leave it in off road height.
I also moved it about 12" to spare the tyres sitting constantly in the one position.
It was just nice after all these weeks to sit in it and makes me realise how much I miss getting out in it.
Roll on the lifting of lockdown so I can go remote camping in it with my new LR day tent ... thanks Danny. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

How do you keep the EPB off? Mine just automatically comes on when I turn the Disco ignition off.
It would be brilliant to know how to keep it off, if there it a know how Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

That's odd, never heard of that.
Certainly never did that on my earlier D3, D4 and this current D4.
They did automatically release though when pulling away.
Would be interested to hear from others on this.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

AutoExpress in an article about "Discovery 3 and 4 and Range Rover Sport 1 models" say:-
Quote:
The park brake system is automatically applied when the ignition is switched off or if auto transmission ‘park’ is selected. It will automatically release when driving away, and does so in a controlled manner, according to the gradient and the driver’s use of the accelerator and transmission.

Try this, foot on brake, push and HOLD down hand brake release and remove key BEFORE releasing lever, I always left mine in first gear
