Information needed on the rear diff

Hi, I’m over from the RRS board as I’m thinking you D3 boys may be a bit more hands on?

I have an 05 Sport tdv6 and I have a leaking output shaft seal on the rear diff, word is it’s a straight forward job but my factory workshop manual has a raft of special tools required and the shaft to be completely removed from both inner and outer ends. I know I don’t require the seal extraction and refit tools.

So I’m hoping someone on here has done this job that can give me real world way of doing this.

Regards
Steve

I would think it would be the same as doing a front one, that is, remove hub, remove shaft complete with CV joint, then remove seal. Reassembly is the reverse only criteria is if the bearing is worn.

I have an 07 D3 and the rear diff was leaking, it worked out cheaper for me to buy a used 2011 unit form Fleybay with a lot less miles than change the seals on the original.

You would need to do your sums but for me the straight swap was less hassle, time and cost.

This job done, had to drop top and bottom joints and take the whole hub and driveshaft out but very straight forward, took me about 4 hours.

Now got a dry diff......and exhaust....and spare wheel Laughing
