Discovery 3 1inch body lift?

Over winter I bought a 2 post lift and took the body off my D3 to do a load of work. When refitting the body, from memory I had pretty much connected everything back together before dropping down the final inch.

A 1inch body lift gives so much more access to everything on the D3 it's incredible (upper arms anyone?). Bush repairs on long expeditions would be infinitely easier, comparable to D2 and Defender with just a 1inch lift.

So I'd like to pick the brains of those in the know of what issues one would face if attempting this and opinions in general. Can't really see it's been done before though I'm sure it has.

Obviously anything is possible, I'm just trying to work out how feasible it is.

I have listed a few things off the top of my head.

I am seriously considering it so please give it some thought.

Steering: An extension shouldn't be difficult to manufacture.

Bumpers: a bracket could be made to lift the front bumper on the 4 bolts. I have a winch bumper fitted making this mod on the winch tray even easier. The rear bumper would have to be cut for rear member and to avoid interfering with weights or weights removed.

Brakes: probably fine but simple extension to hoses

Radiator housing, intake pipes and coolant, small mods to keep things tidy. Can't think of many major collisions here.

Wiring: fairly certain all the wiring has enough slack for there to be no issue here.

Longer bolts and spacers

Cheers

I presume you can do this technically. Why not..

But how do you cope wit the different weight balance at higher speeds on motorway’s?
It is not designed for that hight at those higher speeds, can even be an insurance exclusion?
MaYbe you can lower the airsuspsension At speed if needed, not sure it is enough Then for all circumstances

The counterbalance weights are not there for The looks... they have a function... remove them and it is going to be wobbly
 Best regards
Harold

Insurance was my first thought. I have just spoken to Adrian Flux and they have no issue with the modification and no change to the premium either. Can't say the same for other insurers so my only thought is it might limit who I can insure with in the future..

Vehicle stability I'd say is my biggest concern. Besides the steering rod, I can probably "try before I buy" without any serious modifications, removing the rear bumper entirely. I can't see how it would be any worse than a possibly not even fully loaded roofrack. I thought about perhaps lowering the suspension a tad but doubt it would change much in terms of suspension roll as the centre of mass is still higher relative to the chassis. A slight difference on tyres however.

I personally wouldn't actually remove the weights though some have and can't tell the difference. But with all the rear seats removed, i'll take all the harmonic dampening i can get.

Any more thoughts or technical issues appreciated.

I say do it. You might be the pioneer in this case.

Plenty run a rod lift full-time . . I can't imagine this being any different for COG.

You would know it is lifted, so take the extra precautions when cornering.

Just do it in a reversible way - in case something happens that was completely unexpected.

Then take pics/video and let us know how it is !! Thumbs Up
