Front pads and disc change |
|
Hello all,
Quick question. Last couple of years my MOT advisory has stated ... "Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened Both sides (1.1.14 (a) (ii))". I'm still 5 months from next MOT, but I want to get it done in the next few weeks.
I'm guessing that it makes sense to change pads when doing the discs, but is it fine just to do front discs and pads, or should I really do all four wheels at the same time?
Many thanks, Darren

Front alone is absolutely fine, if that’s what has been advised on. The front will wear faster than the rears anyway. Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

You might want to consider fitting the larger discs from the V8 you just need to buy the extended caliper carriers.

Thank you both for confirming.
It does bring me on to another question. I see that the larger discs are mentioned as an option. These tend to be the slotted and grooved type it seems. Is it OK to put larger slotted and grooved discs on the front, while leaving the rears as they are for the moment?
Thanks, Darren

Hi just get plain discs drilled and grooved discs aren't worth the extra price on these vehicles.
You can buy complete kits with discs, pads, sensors and caliper carriers for not much more than normal discs and pads.
Larger brakes on the front won't be a problem and you can always upgrade the backs at a later stage

V8 conversion is well worth it. 18" rims minimum though, I think some D3s came with 17inch rims.
I went for Brembo discs, little bit pricey vs some but still a lot cheaper than the slotted (dont bother if you go anywhere near mud). Brembos have a very nice coating on them, zero rust. Pads up to you. Also went with brembo. Carriers, any will do. I painting mine just to help things.

Thanks aja and Harry.
OK, drilled and grooved discs are out then. Suits me, as I'd rather not spend extra money if I can help it.
I'll just do the fronts, discs and pads for now.
As for larger discs, thanks for saying about the 18 inch minimum. I'm on R18 tyres, so that seems fine.
Cheers, Darren

Check Advanced Factors for the V8 brake upgrade kit. Gives you everything you need and you'll get a bit of 'forum' discount too.

Changed all the Discs and pads on my V8 to grooved and drilled. Got the kit from a company called the Malting (advertise on Ebay) for a very reasonable price link . Paid extra for pads as I specifically went for Brembo brake pads from a different supplier.
