Issue - suspension

I’ve an issue with the suspension on my disco 3

If it’s locked the rear drivers corner goes down over a few days, if left unlocked then it stays up.

If left longer than a few days unlocked, both the front and rear have dropped slightly but not fully.

What does this likely point too?

Tia

Hi

When locked it does a self level check every 6 hours

Personally I would first , put the suspension into normal height , measure from the centre of the wheel hub to the bottom of the wheel arch

Then pull fuse F26 in the engine bay and leave over night , then recheck height in the morning

Sounds like u have a leak but best to check it overnight as with the fuse pulled it stops it self levelling and should give u a rough ideaof where it’s dropped , ie one corner etc

U can also prior to leaving it overnight pull the compressor cover off , bubble test all around the joints, including the compressor dryer cap , reservoir valve etc

Plus have u got access to a diagnostic reader

Also an extremely important thing if I may plse , , don’t ever get under the motor without axle stands as these can and do drop

Hope that helps

Plus here’s a pic of the reservoir valve , number 7 goes to the other rear valve block

If u get stuck plse come back and let us know as plenty to always help

So last night pulled the fuse, and this morning its still up and hasnt dropped much. I need to measure to see how far it has.

So i'm thinking it a slow slow leak somewhere, so next statge is to spray the joints and look for bubbles

should both sides be the same height? or are they set differently?

Hiya

Know tracking down suspension faults can be a nightmare , heights should indeed be the same on each axle , only different fronts to back

At normal ride height, the fronts should be 465mm and rears 485mm , that’s measuring from the centre of the wheels to the bottom of the wheel arch

If u find it doesn’t drop over night it can be the struts will only leak at a certain height , ie, where the rubber of the strut isn’t exposed , so try it at access, normal and off road height to see if it drops, measuring them at each stage before removing fuse

Had the same with mine , best places to bubble test are , compressor , inc the dryer cap, reservoir valve and air tank, that however normally leaks on the top weld which is hidden against the body , can either remove it or remove the pipe from the reservoir valve and pressure / vacuum test it

Then bubble test around the middle of the strut where the rubber is, on top of the strut

If that doesn’t show any leak u may have to start isolating sections , that way u can 100% ensure each part is either sound or leaking

So start with soap testing , then at different heights

Not wishing to sound rude, Plse don’t ever get under the disco without axle stands , these can and do drop

Hope that helps and plse let us know how u get on

Ps, u may find it easier using a spray bottle with soapy water , for the top of the struts I used a garden sprayer with the long nozzle as u can get onto them with that

So what if they aren’t the Same height when filled, does that point to height sensor or something else?

Hi

If there not the same height a calibration will be required

However , need to ensure firstly 100% there’s no leaks and everything is working as it should , ie compressor etc

So will req diagnostics to do the calibration of the suspension , at the same time best to also read and clear any fault codes

Hope that helps
