Under body protection - Thoughts and recommendations please

With lockdown looming it’s looking like I’ll have some extra time on my hands whilst also not needing to travel daily. So it seems that it will be the prefect time to treat the Disco to some new parts.
On my list to do I’ve got rear pads and disks, handbrake shoes and potentially ride height sensors (or worse Confused ), but I’d like to do at least one mod whilst I’m fixing other things.

I’ve been watching videos of green lane expeditions and seen some horror stories involving smashed sumps and the like. Under body protection seems to be a no brainer but only if I do it right.

What’s the groups opinion on the best brands, types and actual protection levels?
What should I be looking for, and more importantly is there anything I should be avoiding?

Thanks

Uncle Rays sump guard is a good start (pm RLD to see if he’s still doing them), from there it’s really how much do you want to spend! Laughing

I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I went with the Devon4x4 system myself. 8mm thick aly plate may seem like overkill, but I was thinking.... 2.5ton vs sharp rock Shocked

Yes I want D44 as well. Good stuff. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Edit, I was supposed to say "Yes I went D44 as well". Funny how one letter can change the whole meaning. Rolling with laughter Note to self, read before posting.

assuming you've done compressor guard and sliders already then it really is between D44 and prospeed If you wat to go for full under armour

RLD guard if you are going to stop at the sump guard
05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet

I went with the steel compressor guard, sliders and the D44 fuel tank guard. I don't think the latter is as well supported/attached as it might be, but at least it does add a layer of extra metal under the tank.

I'm now looking at the possibility of a rear diff guard but the market offering is expensive and the exhaust in that area is an issue. Anyone else fitted a rear diff guard?

As it stands I’ve not installed anything to the underside. I hadn’t considered sliders or the compressor.
Cost wise the compressor protector is easier on the wallet than the sump guard or rock sliders.

I’ve been looking at this Prospeed compressor protector ( http://prospeed-group.co.uk/product/discov...sor-guard/ ) based on consistent recommendations of their products. I like that it is strong enough to take the weight of the vehicle and can be used as a jack point. The only downside is there’s a 3 week lead time at the moment.

I checked out their rock sliders too and had a heart attack at the £809 price tag! Is there a cheaper alternative that’s any good? I want to do the job right, but I have to be able to afford it too.

going down from Prospeed for sliders you have

LR passion - thicker metal and square bars - my favorite

Wild bear - thicker metal again - lovely company to deal with and cheaper again the prospeed or LR passion

Then Shire fabrications whihc I know nothing about other than price - seen them on a few and they look ok though

in between that lot you have bearmach and Terrafirma who are probably made by Shire, Dixon Fab, Wildbear and re sold - there's not really many people that actually make these sorts of things in the UK

LOL, I went for the cheapest ones, Shire Fabrications, because a mate got some and rated them. Its hard to compare when you generally only buy one set, but I'm very satisfied with mine. Last time out a near-side dip threw the car over against a rocky bank with a sickening crunch. I was sure I must have bent something but this was all there was to be seen..... Smile

you just have to keep in mind that rock sliders and tree bars need annual maintenance if you don't want them to do more harm than good - take em off, clean them and the surfaces onto whihc they mount and re fit. otherwise they turn into some fairly rusty objects along with the sills they mount to
