Good morning folks
I have just been sat in the car with the engine running whilst reading a newspaper ( in a car park ) when I heard a bong glanced at the dash and my temp gauge was through the roof 😲 .
I immediately shut engine down and popped bonnet . Upon inspection there was no need for alarm as had coolant at correct level and engine and bay nowhere near hot ?? Looked under car no signs of leaks or anything untoward. Does anybody have any ideas ? Maybe water temp sender ? Is this a known occurrence with Disco 3 ? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance 👍

Hi ovalautos
That had crossed my mind however you would think if that was the case the engine would be stonking hot as the coolant wouldn’t be circulating and it’s not at all hot . I was erring more towards temp sender or an electrical gremlin on the dash ? However we will see as I have 60 mile to do later today to get home 🤞thanks for your reply 👍

read the fault codes if you can and clear.
could be the water temp sensor or oil temp sensor.

Hey Pete , update, done the said 60 mile journey home no problems whatsoever 70/80 all the way . Temp gauge sat at usual position of midway and never faltered . I will try and get codes read at some point . I should say when sat there watching it in the car park after I had immediately turned it off and checked I started her up again and no issues straight after the event either ???? Odd .
Thanks Greg

most modern cars have idiot temp. gauges.
They are kinda programmed to stay in the middle where possible.
If the car considered its overheating, it will suddenly change the needle from middle to max.
You won't get a slow rise, and you won't have a good understanding of the real temperature

1116 is an "unexpected value" code so it happens when one temp sensor shows a value significantly different to the other
The ECU then poops itself and goes into "overheat mode" as its no longer sure of what the temperature is. Vsicous fan locks in on full etc. 05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet
