video of exactly how slow the LRM marshals were. Felt sorry for the RR driver. It looked a tidy car (4.6 HSE) before he entered the water

Dunc that's a bit harsh.
If a driver is prepared to take their vehicle into that type of situation then IMHO they should be prepared to suffer the consequences if it all goes tits up.
The recovery was successful because the vehicle was recovered & no one got hurt. As far as one can see there was no damage done to the vehicle by the recovery.
There may have been some water damage due to the failure of the vehicle to complete the water section, but that is down to the driver not the Marshal.
Well that's my take on it.
Thanks for the dosh, by the way.
Regards

I don't think the recovery is the issue, as you say, no damage done, it's more a case of a) the marshal not wanting to get wet (why is he a marshall at a water section?) b) the length of time it took for the marshalls to re-act & get him out succesfully.
Remember, Duncs vid has quite a few minutes taken out of it.
you are right about he should be prepared to suffer the consequences & when we saw him being towed further around the track, he was still smiling It was an N plate Rangie & looked quite tidy.
Oh, BTW Nick, thanks for the PM, but I succumbed to get an Engel at the weekend it! It's got a load of black bits on OK!!!

pleased to see JJ passed it on and didnt use it as beer money.
Regards the recovery : the marshal were appaling in my opinion. Exactly the same thing happened last year. I thought it was just a one off but obviosly not.
It was obvious that the guy was getting stuck and wouldnt get out. It took the marshals a good couple of minutes before they even moved. After just standing there watching they eventually wandered off to get a vehicle.
Had they had a vehicle on stand by (one that actually worked) and were paying attention they could have got the Range Rover out of the water in less than a minute. with little or no electrical problems.
It wasnt just me who was unimpressed, a number of people around made several comments about the lack of response, many using words ive never heard before:wink:
another example : the wading through the lake , marshals where allowing 3+ to wade at the same time. all it needed was for the 1st one to get stuck and all vehicles would be bunched up and suffer some kind of water damage. Not a problem for the old wrecks (and I have one) but for newer vehicles its not a good end to a great weekend
I think when you do course like that and have marshals everywhere you kind of expect that they know what they are doing and will be responsive if you get into trouble. They guy in the back of the disco didnt have a clue.
I shant be taking my car around there again. Great if all goes well, but not if you run into problems.
Rant Over .... Duncan

The video has been removed from YouTube by the user If you are annoying me, just remember it takes 42 muscles for me to frown and only 4 to extend my middle finger, and I'm lazy so don't be offended.

I decided to redo it and let everyone make up their own mind regards the quality of marshalling. Duncan

These marshalls gave up their holidays and weekends for prats like you !

Youtube seems to attract more than it's fair share of idiots posting comments like that. I've got a couple of holiday vids on there from the Maldives, and I couldn't believe some of the messages people were posting - calling me a to er and loser, and there was nothing more controversial than us walking along the beach or going out for a meal !
I can only assume they have first hand experience of wa ing in a bedsit, 'cos I certainly don't D3 TDV6 S 2005 - TorqTune, Privacy Glass, Remote FBH, 19" HSE Alloys, Boot liner, retrofit F&R PDC, RAI

Dunc, so where are the vids?
or are you on a hiding to nothing - so better removed?
[not seeing any of it, though it does seem inexcusable to let 3 vehicles wade one after the other, unless there is an escape route for the following vehicles] Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.

I got recovered (twice) in my defender by the marshals, once in the long water run and second time in the mud run, I have to say imho they did a fantastic job. Any guy who is prepared to crawl through the mud run because of idiots like me with delusions of grandeur deserves a pint.

IMO A marshalls role is a serious role & if you're prepared to 'use up holidays' to be a marshall, you should be prepared to do a swift (& safe) job to recover any stricken/stuck/stupid vehicle.
Let's not get it all out of context, there are some very very good marshalls, sensible and who know there stuff. I agree that the 'Mud Run; marshalls need an extra pint, because they are ultra commited
But there are also some marshalls who don't have the same commitment (like all walks of life) & it is those that can cause the negative comments and frustrations by those watching and those participating through a lacadaisical approach to their job. Regardless of whether they are volunteers or not, it is still a Job and should be performed to a certain level.
Section leaders should ensure that this takes place.
Just my (additional) two penneth! it! It's got a load of black bits on OK!!!
