CD player not recognising discs |
|
Happy New Year to all fellow members in these difficult times
Disco 3, 2008, TDV6, HSE
My Disco is fitted with the premium entertainment package (Harmon Kardon) and recently started giving the message "Invalid disc" when it's due to play. I have tried the discs on the home player and they are fine. Obviously I have tried playing known good discs and get the same message.
Has anyone else had the problem and can advise a cause or better still, a fix.

I fear that might be terminal but hopefully someone will come along and have a more positive answer. I had the same issue with a satnav unit. I think it was my D3. It simply refused to recognise a disc anymore.
Have you tried a “hard reset”, that’s been known to fix many infotainment issues. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

rowlejohn,
I presume a lens cleaning CD disk may work in the HK system. Even if a player doesn't recognise a normal CD the lens cleaner often is. Has the car been owned by a smoker?

David
Never thought of that !!
Actually it will play a couple of discs that are in the magazine. Well worth a shot and in reply to your second suggestion...Yes, unfortunately I do smoke.
So, the easy tasks to try first are 1-Get and use a lens cleaner, 2-Do a hard reset (Battery disconnect etc.) 3-Smoking. Unfortunately it's hard after a life of addiction to the ciggies, it's easier said than done !! Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

rowlejohn,
Try something like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hama-CD-DVD-Las...%3A2334524
Make sure it comes with bristles under the disk (to clean the lens) and the liquid (to put on the bristles).
Regarding the smoking, you don't have to explain to me. I was lucky enough to be able to give up 11 years ago.

UPDATE
Thanks for the replies Guys
Got a CD cleaning kit from the local Wilko...it has the small brushes on the cleaning disc and comes with a small bottle of cleaning fluid.
Ran the cleaning disc through the player a couple of times with a drop of fluid on each brush and it works perfectly. The sound is much sharper on the playback. I also cleaned the surface of the CD's whist I was at it with the cleaner.

Great to get a quick response and a result
Fantastic start to the year and it saved me shelling out almost £200 on a remanufactured unit
