NAS spec 2006 LR3 HSE.
Hi all, have a couple of questions for the forum that I’ve been having trouble finding a definitive answer for when I did a search.
I purchased my LR3 used and unfortunately it came with just one key. Looks like a previous owner has switched out the case for a non LR branded one.
Car stalled on my daughter yesterday at the Tim Horton’s drive through for reasons unknown so she turned the ign switch off. When she attempted to re-start the key fob fell to bits.
Unit will lock, unlock will turn on but not crank. Security flashing red light is on so I’m assuming something has happened to the immobilizer function on the key fob?
So I guess I now need an entire new key fob and a means of programming it to vehicle.
Anyway, most key related posts I’ve found mention the requirement of having at least one functioning key in order to be able to program another. How then do you suggest I proceed with no correctly functioning key?
Are there scan tools available that are able to program new keys from scratch without the need of an existing working key?
Is the LR Dealer just an option or my only option at this point?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Sounds like your transponder has fallen out of the key. It is a tiny black plastic electronic part, which unlocks the immobiliser. Find it and put it back the key, and you should be running again. Copying the transponder for a spare key is a job for auto key specialist. Chris

Alternatively IF you can get your transponder working temporarily then you could use an Autel AP200 diagnostic tool (£47ish) to program a new key or keys (£23.30 from accessfobs.co.uk ). For a single key you could swap the blade from your old key. Additional keys would require the supplied blank cut.

You will need to check the frequency of the transmitrer before purchasing another key as i think they are different in Canada and the USA.

Sorry Blueskyrestorarion I was focused on your problem not your location. Autel are a Chinese company supplying globally.
The replacement keys are also sourced from China.
The frequency check tip is a good one.

This is great information. Thank you all. I had no idea such an inexpensive scan tool could be used to do this on an LR3. I’ll also pay attention to the frequency question.
Just have to say, I own/have owned many Land Rover products over the years and while I feel often let down by the manufacturer the fantastic community of enthusiasts never has.
Thanks again.
Matt.

Just used my Autel and www.accessfobs.co.uk to purchase and program a new key. Dead easy and quick. Much cheaper than the auto locksmith I used last time! Use discount code WELCOME10 for 10% off the key. Used a local locksmith to cut the key blade for £10, Timpsons wouldn't touch it, company policy apparently.

Update. I ordered the Autel unit and some new keys and had no problems resetting the original key fob and adding the extra units.

I had a key blank cut by Timpsons in Llandudno a couple of weeks ago. the assistant told me they had the machine to do it but would not cut my blank in case it didn't work. as this was for a spare key, I said that I would pay for the cutting and take full responsibility if it didn't work. She cut the key and said "No charge" so I dropped a fiver into the charity box.
Went to the car which was parked outside, tried the new key and it fitted a treat.
TIP
To remove/refit the keyblade from the fob, use a long Masonry nail with the point ground off and the diameter ground down to suit the roll pin size. Don't lose the pin, they are small & hard to find if dropped !! Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021
