Thanks to Buckingham for assisting with the recce yesterday. Although it was I who had to recover him. This seems to be a regular occurance.
I hope you found your son after losing him
We also drove the river bed in orcheston, not to be attempted if more than about 6 inches of water is my guess. It'll be on the route and you can decide if you want to do it or not.
Now for a serious question.......
I have spent ages checking and planning a route. Ive then written some Tulip diagrams to navigate the route. Yesterday we drove the route and I marked against the tulips distances and bearings(where necessary). The plain is full of criss cross tracks which I have done my best to add to the tulips to make everything as clear as possible, but even we strayed off tracks (only a few metres) with GPS and memory map.
I will now write up the navigation instructions, but because we went off track now and again I cant be sure the distances are spot on. What I really need to do is do another recce to double check. However, I dont have a weekend free.
So, are you happy to go with my best attempt or would you rather I abandon the Tulips and ask for volunteers with GPS mapping to lead the groups. Or may be someone with mapping can go at the back of a group and advise if the leader using the Tulips goes wrong.
I'm just concious that if on the Plain you can get lost easily. (as long as you find your way off the plain before Monday morning you wont get shot)
Thoughts please Duncan

Hats off to you for your continued efforts to make this an enjoyable day / weekend for us all.
As someone who will be driving solo and who struggles to follow a paper map and drive at the same time, it would be my preference to having a vehicle with the Memory Map overlays (or other GPS) leading each group - using your tulip diagrams perhaps but using GPS as backup. However, I know that the start and route of lanes can often be missed even with the aid of GPS mapping!!!
By the way, is there a plan for lunch on the Saturday? Self catering or pub lunch option?
I may not have my cb aerial mounted in time for this event. Will PMRs be sufficient?
Thanks again for all your hard work on this. What happened to Buckingham this time?

Picnic fine by me although an early pub stop for a very quick refresher sounds attractive particularly if it's dusty on the Plain!

Nice job Dunc - thanks for your efforts.
Am happy to follow Tulips but I agree, it might be an idea to send someone ahead with GPS co-ordinates to verify the tulips - just to be safe.

Dunc.....
Personally I think the Tulip Diagrams will be fine and electronic maps and gps should be left behind....

my gas bbq is a bit big to lug around all weekend. I can bring a couple of disposables and we could use them if needed.does that help ? Will bring utensils as well I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person
