Brake wear sensors

I'm currently rebuilding my brakes on my D3. I have new wear sensors for the front and back. After removing the rear sensor, I got lazy and instead of checking the part numbers I just opened both new ones to see which one matched the old one. I then realised that there is no discernible difference between the 2 new ones and I no longer know which is which.
Does it matter at if I effectively put a front sensor on the back and vice versa? Or will the car know and punish me?
I thought that the rubber grommets would line up with the fixing points, but they can move along the wire.

Ta in advance for any help!

Usually green to the front and white to the rear, if they are genuine

I imagine they are the same, if they are the same as my Jag and D3. its basically a loop of wire that gets broken when the pads ware down enough. so nothing more cleaver then that.

Yeah... turns out that the front and rear are different cables as if suspected, however despite 2 different part codes on the packaging, I have 2 front cables. I've installed a front cable on the rear (for now, just to avoid warning lights) although the plug fits, it won't properly latch. Cheers for the help

If you the old one you can cut off the end at the brake caliper
pair the wires and twist together as a temp fix
