I'm also keen to achieve PC via Nav Screen, but would prefer to retain touchscreen functionality. I would go as far as being prepared to ditch the LR nav prog and use something installed on the PC if I could use the in-dash touchscreen to save the clutter of a second screen. Carbon footprint? I neither know nor give a damn

From what I've worked out, the connects2 product will give you:
PC on the sat nav screen via a VGA cable at resolution of 640 x 480 (not brilliant but...)
2 x external inputs (via phono stype connectors)
1 x reversing camera input which apparantly will pop up automatically
It is all controlled via a remote control.
I'm not clear how sound gets to the stereo system - I assume via the aux input on the stereo.
Have a look at the instruction in my gallery - this is where my info has come from. Doesn't look too hard to install either as it is all plugs below the passenger seat and power.
I think I might go this route.
Also going to try using windows vista media centre on a laptop to work my ipod music library via a media centre remote control. Might even sync my home TV recordings via my wireless network to the car, then you could watch recorded tele while stuck in traffic jams... Or i might just buy the alpine product for use with the ipod and plug it into one of the inputs on this.
decisions..decisions...
the ipod via the touchscreen product I thought looked very clumsy and doesn't support multiple inputs.

That looks like a great peice of kit. I assume it could get the reverse sensor from just the 12v reversing lights switching on? or where else could it pick it up from?
So it all connects just through the satnav input & everything else controlled through the remote (switching between AV /PC inputs)?
It seems to me tha the Satnav instructions would still be heard OK even if the screen displayed CarPC? it! It's got a load of black bits on OK!!!
Campaign successful....

Hi Paul,
i read your points on the above with interest.
I have had one of these units on order from low cost car audio for months.
I ordered the unit to give me flexible control of the a/v inputs, as I have a veba dvb freeview unit that I wanted to get tv on the front screen.
However they have since canceled my order as connects2 have told them they can not supply, as the unit design is not finalized.
Have you actually managed to get hold of one of these devices now? if so from where.
Would love to know.
Thanks,

Guys
Very interesting - I have been trying to find a solution such as this, and so far have been rummaging around the Alpine products.
Looking at their VehicleHub etc. this, combined with the KCE-425i, seems to do all that is needed or am I missing something? Not sure what the cost will be though... the Vehicle Hub retails at around £250, not sure about the cost of the cables to connect to the LR system
This is what it says on the Alpine website:
Quote:VPA-B211P (VHub) Features
• Allows you to expand the audio and video capabilities of the factory fitted screen system without altering their
functions and adding additional sources such as DVD player, Digital TV Tuner, DVD Navigation, iPod...
• Detailed information on the factory screen and control via infra-red remote control
• Ai-Net, iPod compatibility and USB control, 2 A/V inputs, 1 Video output, 1 NAVI RGB input, 1 dedicated reversing
camera input
• Can be connected to aftermarket screens or OEM screens (with interface KCE-XXX & KWE-XXX or APF-XXXX)
Does this not offer what we are after?
I have ordered my new HSE with the RSE pack, but cannot find if LR use a VehicleHub already in the RSE. Anyone know? If so, it should be relatively simple upgrade to add the KCE-425i box and cables to give Ipod capability?

My 5 cents
Lets hope the Connects2 CT90-LR03 can be delivered that solves a lot of problems, fingers crossed.
But
why not use the Nokia 95 ?,plumb that into the Satnav screen it has Video, Mp3, very fast Internet connection HSDPA, the operating system is Symbian 6, and after many years playing with this, its so much more reliable that Windows, lots of applications too,(google earth,Tom-Tom,word,Excel,Powerpoint,messenger not to mention the trillion Java programs . you can use a fold away Blue tooth Keyboard, BOB is your uncle.. Rob ... LR3 HSE AUTO.... Peasant chaser
Flip down Next base DVD,MP3,DIVX, FREE VIEW connecting to SatNav--might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb

Well, by way of an update, my stealer has been doing a load of background work on this alongside their friendly audio installation specialist, and I have spoken directly with Alpine.
FWIW:
- the LR system is bespoke and does not use the Alpine VehicleHub (according to Alpine);
- the KCE-425i is due in July and should integrate with the LR systems;
- to add the KCE-425i will most likely mean losing the TV tuner input to the LR head unit since it does not use the VehicleHub and the LR system does not have enough inputs (!); and
- the KCE-425i will supposedly give full touch screen ipod control through the existing LR head unit.
I am therefore going to wait until July to see what the Alpine KCE-425i unit can do - I will keep you posted (unless another kind soul beats me to it!)
