Yeah thanks Jim!
I drove the car to the shops, about 5 miles round trip, and I can report improved 'pull-away'.
Definitely worth doing.
Andy.

So, without the mod, until warranty expires, its better to drive on full throttle Red Indian wisdom: If you must jump canyon, dont do it in 2 steps.

thanks from my side as well
one EGR valve passed away
the turbo went away (lucky me, I took the extra warranty, got it refunded that way )
I hope it stops here, and I surely will help it a hand with this mod .. thanks ..

So, for all of you out there with a shiny new pair of blanking plates...
Did mine on saturday, and not overly difficult, but dropped a bolt and a gasket, and never found the bolt again!! (it dropped through the engine bay, but even after removing the sump tray, I cant find it)
Luckily had another that would do the job, so sorted, but, bit of extra info for you.
I could not get the butterfly spindle to come out, and no matter how much leverage, it didnt seem to want to move, and I didnt want to break anything, so....
When you take the actuator off, there's a small plastic link from the brass part of the actuator to the plastic bit thats attached to the butterfly spindle. Remove this link completely, move the butterfly into the horizontal (wide open) position, and put a small self tapper in down the side of the large plastic block thats attached the the butterfly spindle (it'll make sense when you're looking at it) to keep the butterfly from moving. The actuator can move freely, so thinks its still working OK, and this seems to do the trick.
hope that helps
Al
Oh, and £5.68 of your fine english pounds for a new gasket, so be careful! TDV6 S - Tonga with Ebony

After taking to SimonSi, it seems brute force is all it takes, but mine wouldn't shift. So (as per previous post) I've left mine in the wide open position, secured with a self tapper at the side of the large plastic block. It also means it less hassle when you want to return it to factory spec, just remove the screw and refit the link.

Didn't have the courage to use that much brut force , so have jammed it open and left off the link so the actuator can still move, haven't put the blanking plates in yet.
First thoughts, my engine seems to breathe much easier, now when booted from a bout 55 MPH it drops two gears where it used to only drop one and does not change up until 4000 RPM where it used to change up at 3500 RPM, more eager or less hesitant when given the request to go particularly after a period of overrun. Also on my test route (TFC knows this one) the vehicle has gained 5 MPH, my initial thoughts would be that this mod has brought to life the engine tune can only get better when the plates are in. As far as fuel consumption is concerned, don't know because the get up and go is such a nice feeling I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

This drawing may be useful if you're thinking of doing the EGR blanking modification - the blanking plates fit between pipe 3 and valve 5 on each side, and gives you some idea of what the emmision control system consists of. All 4 bolt heads should be easy to access with a long enough extension and socket. Is there something in the way of that particular bolt? D3 TDV6 S 2005 - TorqTune, Privacy Glass, Remote FBH, 19" HSE Alloys, Boot liner, retrofit F&R PDC
