The magic item that holds the butterfly plate onto the spindle is....the butterfly plate
The centre area of the spindle is machined slightly and two small insignificant wimpy bits of plastic snap into there when the spindle is inserted.
I worked my way up from simple screwdriver, to home made pullers to a pair of waterpump pliers with which I had to assert large amounts of violence before the plastic locators let go. I just made sure that I pulled exactly in a line with the spindle.
Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. OK, so is it B r. Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Thanks for that info.
Is the plastic end effectively a cap over the moulding that houses the spindle bearing or is it stronger than it looks ?

Sorry LL, missed your posts Yes, it's stronger than it looks, but be careful as it's not totally solid so don't crush it. There is no bearing in there, it's just an end on the spindle to allow the motor to move it. The bearings are just sleeves in the main body moulding; I didn't see anything round the bearings shift when the spindle came out. Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Just to let you know that at the weekend I drove our RRS after not having driven it for a couple of months. I comparison to the D3 there was SO much hesitation at roundabouts etc - both cars are tuned but only the D3 has the butterfly removed and the EGRs blanked. Next free weekend will see the RRS having its butterfly innards yanked for sure. Cheers

I took my butterfly out and have since lost it ( until I find it probaly in 5 years time as I usually do )
Is there a parts number on this so I can replace when DOE ( Irish MOT) comes about ? Don't take life me too seriously ..... it's I'm not permanent

Try these, center letters touch each other, but I think they are:
PEIGF30.

Just an interesting (?) snippet to add here. My Disco is now just out of warranty (with about 37k on the clock) so I thought I would have a look at how easy/difficult this mod is. I removed the bolts securing the pipes near the EGR valves only to discover that they are similarly corroded (as per stapldm's post on this thread). I decided to order some from LR - at 19p each they don't exactly break the bank - as my fear is that if left much longer they wil almost certainy shear if you try to undo them. Now those of you who have ventured down into this area of the engine will know that there is precious little room to get your sticky fingers on these bolts so God knows what you would do if they shear....engine out job I fear all for a few pence???
Anyway if you are still awake....now to my point. The original part number has been superceded (no explanation as to why) which caused quite a dely in the bolts arriving at my dealer and which also makes me a little suspicious that LR know about this corrosion problem and maybe the new bolts have a different spec - can't tell just by looking at the new ones that I collected today. So I bought 10 and ultimately plan to source some stainless ones as I don't fancy an engine out if I ever decide to remove them again once I have replaced the existing ones - assuming I keep the Disco for ever (and with the current residuals I may as well run it into the ground!). Hope this gets the thought processes working.

Just been down to Stratstones for half an hour trying to get 4 EGR bolts.
He got the picture up and went and got 4 M6 bolts with 20mm thread, I told him that I have had these in my hand and they are M8 with about 40mm of thread. He would not believe me and then went and asked a fitter who confirmed the bolts he had were correct. I just walked away.
There is a picture on an earlier thread and thats the bolts I have.
I must be going mad can anyone supply me with the part number for these bolts? Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. Tasmod Stainless Sill plates. Grabber AT2's. Home made mud flaps. If you are after the bolts connecting the hose to the EGR valve, they are M6x20 (part no:67294040), if you are after bolts connecting EGR valve to the cooler, they are M8x16 (part no: FS108161). This is as per Microcat. LR D3 S Black, Auto TDV6

Hate to ask, but if you've already got the bolts, why do you need more?
Assuming your fitting the EGR blanking plates, surely you use the existing bolts?
What have I missed ????? Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.
