I saw something interesting on Reddit the other day. Apparently when a ship is abandoned in international waters, it becomes a finders keepers scenario. Be interesting to see if they can save it!

Funny enough I wondered that regarding wrecks and there cargo , didn’t realise there were so many terminologies Jetsam, flotsam, lagan and derelict

See there’s a reference regarding Duchy of Cornwall and think Cornwall a few hundred years ago were one of the top places where if anything came on shore the locals would Nick all of it before the red coats got wind of it

Jetsam describes goods cast overboard to lighten a vessel in danger of sinking. The vessel may still perish.

Flotsam describes goods lost from a ship which has sunk or otherwise perished. Goods are recoverable because they remain afloat.

Lagan describes goods cast overboard from a ship which afterwards perishes. The goods are buoyed so they can be recovered.

Derelict describes property, whether vessel or cargo, which has been abandoned and deserted at sea by those who were in charge of it without any hope of recovering it.

.........

Great idea. New models for the 2022/23 year coming soon are:

The new VW Jetsam.... in Sea Green

I like the look of the Porsche Flotsam... in Aquamarine

The Bentley Lagan......I'll order one in Smoke Grey

and for the wife, the Dacia Derelict..... in Rust

Where there's muck, there's brass

point to note for me is the fire crews saying the EV batteries are sustaining the fire and they are struggling to extinguish them.
That doesnt bode well for the crash safety on the public roads and any fire services involved. I once watched a car go up in flames on my street and from the initial under bonnet flames to being fully engulfed to being put out by the fire brigade was around 45 minutes, with no damage to neighbouring cars or property. Cant see that being the case with an EV.

I seem to remember when Hammond crashed the Rimac EV on Top Gear, James May quipped that even though the vehicle fire was “out” the batteries would continue to spontaneously combust up to 3 days later.
There’s definitely more to consider with an EV fire it would seem

The ship has now sunk to depths of 3500 metres in the Atlantic. Convenient to say the least, won’t need to spend millions safely unloading the now defunct and dangerous car batteries…
