Yes you can use the fuse box there ..

Hi Wiggs,

I wouldn't want to contradict anything you say as your installations are spot on, but I would advise anyone against connecting things directly to the CJB (fusebox) unless you really know what you're doing (which I for one don't Laughing )....

In the case of the D3, the CJB is much more than just a fusebox....behind the relay/fuse panel is three layers of PCBs....they contains all of the power management and monitoring functions for all of the D3's electrical systems.....by piggy-backing onto an existing connection you could easily overload it or trigger errors/faults/shut-downs that are really not good for it (or your pocket)... a new CJB is around 600 quid if I'm not mistaken.

The safest place to connect ANY peripheral devices is the lighter sockets (or obviously the feeds to these sockets)....these are correctly fused and the CJB expects these connections to draw varying amounts of current at any given time...they also seem to be exempt from any power management strategies that the D3 has going on (current-limiting, shut-off etc).

I hope that this helps Thumbs Up

No ones metioned the CJB...

If you read the post again ..you will see mal_NW and myself are on about the rear cubby hole were the fuses for the tow bar are located.

i connected into the rear ciggy lighter as i wanted the power to work only after the ignition was turned to possition 1 ...so it cant flatten my battery

Thanks for your concern though ...

I have connected stuff to the CJB myself with no problems ..i have a full set of wiring diagrams and work within the electrical/mechanical industry so im quite confident on what im doing.

But if your not ..then dont mess with stuff you dont know ....

If in doubt get your multimeter out ..as i like to say Laughing

Sorry for the misunderstanding Wiggs...you're right....I just saw the word fusebox and jumped to the wrong conclusion. Embarassed (but so could any other user I suppose)

Without hijacking the thread too much, here's a link to some pictures of the CJB that most of us will never get to see....

so, by doing the above, does this give you an extra button, say for the camera, or does it come on automatically, or do you still have to go through the above procedure??

Cheers

Everytime you want to use either the dvd / reversing camera / companion cam ( or whatever you have plugged in ) you have to get to it by going through the diagnotic mode ( as above)

It will stay on as long as you like ..or until you lock the car ..then you will have to enter the diagnostics again.

So for example..start car.. enter diagnostics ...put dvd on ..set off ...thats it

No extra touch screen button unfortunatly ...but £500 -£700 better off Thumbs Up

Looks good!

Can you change the channel via the touch screen or do you need to control the channels via the DVB box directly?

Channel changing and other stuff is done with a remote (supplied with the kit) .

I have fitted the remote eye at the bottom of the A pillar (passenger side)
