Wiring Help/Electrical Question

Anyone on here good with wiring/electrics?

Here's my question for you.

Dash lights are not working.

I have traced the fault to the wiring somewhere between the lighting control switch (side, headlights fogs, etc) and the load (could be any number of 10 possible things - cluster, radio, switch pack cigarette lighter light, window switch etc. The wire (red-brown) that provides power to all illumination is ~12v out from the switch.

However...

When connected to the load (the dash, radio, assorted lights etc). the switch itself shuts off the circuit. No fuses blown. I have replaced the switch thinking this was the initial issue, but it is not the switch (for the record a known working switch was borrowed and still the issue persists).

Turning the switch off then back on (to side lights, headlights etc) power restored.

question is:

1) Does this indicate a short somewhere between the switch and any number of the possible outlets/lights
2) what's the best way to try and trace this?
3) Why does the switch turn off then reset like this?

From the wiring diagram it could be related to a bad earthing.
Try to check for some corrosion around the light switch panel earth point C2627

I’d almost bypass the switch and dimmer inside with a small fuse
See if the fuse blows

The dimmer can go faulty and cause this, did your replacement switch also include the dimmer?

Thanks I will check this.

With your resources there, do you happen to know where i can find this connector - C1167/c1165 ? I can't upload the screen shot, but it's page 64 of the wiring diagrams for the LR3.
.

Yes - in fact i thought that might be the case and grabbed another known working one. It does the same, so I do not think it is the dimmer switch.

The fuse itself isn't blowing... but the switch is limiting the output once on load. Turning it off resets this.

Just wanted to close this out by noting that i solved the issue - with diagram help - thanks!

The bundle located on the passenger (right side) of the vehicle was located. It was a notorious part of the taped bundle area where water could possibly get to - although this connection was ok.

I managed to isolate the offending load, and remove it from the bundle. Soldered everything up and it all works...

Thanks for your assistance.
