Engine System Fault, MOT failed (Updated)

Cheers for looking,

Im in a bit of a haste as i have a 05 LR3 that has a ESF message pop up when the ignition is turned on. I had it a while ago however it disappeared so didn't think much of it however its raised its head again and due a MOT soon so in a rush to try get it sorted.

A known issue i have currently is when accelerating to 2.5/3K rpm the car goes into limp mode.. im leaning towards a fuel or air issue but not 100% if this is tied in with the ESF.

I ran a report and will post, a thing that pops out is the EGR codes, a previous owner has blanked these off however one looks like its not sealed properly - could this be a issue? i've also read with mine being a 05 i dont require a remap for the EGR blank

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've got an 05MY - had the EGRs blanked many years back.

I get the same two error codes without issue and but do NOT get an ESF on dash.
 I see no ships........

I'd definitely sort out the leak from the blanks.

Just as a thought regarding the limp mode have you changed the fuel filter recently and, if so, was it a decent make - Mann etc?
 I see no ships........

And also worth cleaning the MAP & MAF sensors while you're there - maybe the guy who blanked the EGRS didn't bother.

I did mine after blanking and the amount of crud was unbelievable.

Plenty of posts on here about it - just don't go poking anything in them

Ive not changed the fuel filter yet, that was something i thought could be an issue but i ordered one and it was Britpart which i read online to avoid so have to re-order a new one...

Ill have a look at both sensors also, do you know if thats an issue that could bring the ESF message on?

Going to look at the turbo actuator as well i think to see if thats seized, seems a simple enough job and free so worth a punt... not sure if that would bring up a message if it was seized though

So a update, i seemed to have fixed the ESF - it was a seized turbo actuator arm which was thankfully a easy fix! Im after some more advice now its failed the MOT with the below

Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint excessively worn (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint excessively worn (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn outer bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))

Looking online replacing these parts seem to be able to not go so smoothly and potentially costly. Has anyone got any advice on the best way to tackle these... should i replace the control arm as the easiest solution? but then best practice to replace both sides, which then incurs more cost?

Is it worth buying a bushing kit and just replace the individual parts?

Ive got 10 days to try get it sorted so looking at tackling it this weekend

Glad you sorted the ESF fault.

For what it's worth I changed both lower front suspension arms as complete units in a day last summer - I'd thought of rebushing but decided the time to do and cost of bushes etc didn't stack up for me.

The ARB drop links are pretty easy - when we did my lads a couple of weeks back we had two nuts that we used a hacksaw on rather than waste a load of time. Get HD ones if possible.

If it's the bushes in the rear hub knuckle that need replacing again fairly easy - you'll need a press kit or a couple of relevant size sockets and threaded bar.

But please - make sure it's fully supported on decent axle stands before you crawl underneath hammering bejasus out of stuck bolts Thumbs Up

Thanks me too! im going to look at ordering 2 lower suspension arms to save me some time/hassle, ive found These - do you think they would me good enough?

The ARB links ive found are MEYLE - would you say these are okay?

The rear bush im not too sure about ill have to ask the question at the garage, apologies for asking 1 million questions, im not yet familiar which are reputable parts/brands and which to stay clear of!

With regards the lower arms I went with Meyle HD - didn't fancy poly bushes. My thoughts on not using them were due to stiffness over the hydra bush. Meyle HD seem to get good reviews in the main

For the drop links both me and my lad use Meyle HD . I've had mine on my a good few years without issue after having two cheaper sets fail

They’re a site sponsor as well, did all of my drop links and anti role bar bushes last year using the Meyle, good solid kit, and AF appears cheaper than the ones you found
