Coolant bleed screw
Hi, anyone had the the bleed screw on the expansion tank come loose? Ours was showing low coolant the other day so I had a look under the bonnet gave it slight tweak and it blew off, the engine was hot by the way. It wouldn’t thread back in properly, I wound some ptfe tape round and all was good, until today when it blew off just as my wife pulled onto the drive. Is this a common fault?

I run mine with the radiator cap loose and it causes no issues as I do with my other vehicles.
I think 15psi in the cooling system puts too much stress on seals hoses etc.
I know it's designed for it and the idea behind pressurising the system is to raise the boiling point and allow the use of smaller radiators.
As I said I've run my D3 like it for 8 years not even having to top it up.
Jim.

I had my bleed screw leaking and as the ambient air temp. was 39C, I decided not to tighten as I was concerned as its plastic it would strip or shear off. Very early ones didn't have a seal so it was changed to the later version with one.

Hi there,
I know it is an old post.
My coolant bleed screw is very worn. I would like to change only the screw and not the whole tank.
Still, I can not find the ref. for this screw.
I have a '2005 2.7L TDV6 Disco 3.
Does anyone have the reference for this screw ???

LR007314 in principle which is superseded by LR055301.
I would change the whole tank, really, if your float is original too.

Thanks Kajtzu,
I also have a '2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 at home.
The L322 has a LR007314/LR055301 bleed screw (as mentionned in LRCat).
Still, it is not the same screw as in the '2005 2.7L TDV6 Disco 3.
I tried at Land Rover, they also told me to change the whole expansion tank.
I must admit that I am not keen on changing a whole tank for 150€ when only a bleed screw at 5€ is worn... To me, it is a waste of money and natural ressources.
I mesured that screw.

I will carry on searching. Thanks for your help, D3 TDV6 for holidays use,

You could get a Febi tank for about 64 euro or a Ridex one for 44 euro. Both inclusive TVA from auto-doc.
I have a Nissens which cost 80 but I mean how badly can one screw up a plastic tank, a sensor, cap and a screw? (Ridex is autodoc’s own brand)
