Side Step Removal & Rust Prevention

Had some fun and games Removing my side steps from my MY14 Disco 4 they were starting to rust but luckily I was able to remove without needing to get the grinder out (was still a 2 hour job!)

Honestly I'm not going to replace these being at how prone these seem to rust, other than replacing the plastic trim with a new set (as it still has the holes cut in it to allow for the brackets) I'm wondering, do I need to screw some new, preferably stainless, bolts into the sill where the brackets were to cover the screw holes in? or can I just leave them now empty?

thanks

The bolts holes can be left open as they were from the factory, or you can as you suggest plug them.

Did you remove the sill covers to inspect the sills for rust? The old covers will either need replacing now or you'd have to plastic weld closed the bracket holes!

It would be quicker to source a replacement set from a breakers for around £80-£100. Or, Powerful UK have a cheap aftermarket replacement set which is adequate. Thumbs Up

The sills look fine I did give them a good clean down and removed a lot of mud caught behind the plastic trim, to be honest the brackets were actually fine it was the side steps themselves that were rusting up i'm guessing from all the dirt and moisture that gets kicked up?

Yes I will be sourcing those replace ones you mentioned in the time being im making do with the gaps in the plastic trim while I wait for them to arrive.

Thanks for the advice

Thats good to hear! the previous owner had already replaced them once himself! so thats basically 2 sets in 10 years!!!

I cant see why anyone would leave them on to be honest mind you I do have long legs.
