Well after waiting to get a longer ribbon cable ..i have now done some more testing and everything is looking good.
Longer ribbon cable
Circuit board covered in "warm " glue ..stops anything touching that shouldn't ..and stops any naff solder joints
Putting it together in a small box.
Quick test ..note sneeky preview of windows on the screen
Box fit's down here like a glove
Quick tidy up of the wires and a small piece of foam to stop the cables rubbing on the sharp edge of screen mounting.
Have routed the USB lead and power lead down to the bottom of the center consul for now as im still testing the interface box.
But everything working ok ..good times Help get this page up the rankings please

Very nicely done - keep us posted on the testing. Is there a reason the relay has to be that meaty or could you have got away with something smaller?

Basically i use them for work so had some handy !!
I diidn't realy look for a smaller 14 pin relay ..as the terminals would of been to hard to solder Help get this page up the rankings please

That's what I guessed! I suppose with a smaller DIL relay (or similar) your could get it on a much smaller piggy-back board and then pot the whole thing and - er - sell it to people on here...

Wiggs, magnificent find and implementation. I have recently taken delivery of our RRS TDV8 and as standard it comes without the LR touch screen , unless you want to fork out a couple of k. I am currently trying to find a Disco3/RRS display from a vehicle that is being dismantled. If anyone knows of such a mis/fortunate event please let me know.
Wiggs which input (I/P) did you use for the computer as I am aware of the three I/Ps at the back? Also What was the connection sequence from the ribbon cable to the USB connector and the wiring for the display connection?
Thanks in advance,

Why not buy a non landrover touch screen that will fit (assuming such a thing exists that would fit) as you don't need it for built in navigation. I'm sure with some creative fitting and purchasing the correct surround from landrover it could be made to work?
Just a thought

I wouldnt bother with the LR screen if you havent already got one ..too much messing to get it to work ..fiber optic cables and all sorts .( in fact i dont think its possible to retro fit)
I would get a 7" liliput screen ( or simular ) ..its already touch screen.
Wiring was as the first page of the post ...i may have had to swap 2 wires around comming from the relay to the little circuit board.
No damage will be done ..it's just you may touch the left of the screen and it shows up as the right.
I can go and check for definate if you realy need to know
I have been using an interface box to get the computer VGA signal to the screen .It fits into the sat nav dvd player under the seat and interups the GVIF signal.
I have not been having much luck though ..im on my second interface and that still has issues ...supplier have stopped answering my emails aswell ...tossers Help get this page up the rankings please

Got some from here http://www.toby.co.uk/
You cant get 4 way connectors longer than 150mm ( well i cant find any ) so i got 16 way .I then cut a section of 4 wires ( leaving me another 3 attempts if i fooked up ..but all was well)
I ordered some 300mm one's and 420mm ones , but found the 300mm ones to be ideal
AXO-01264 ( 300MM - 16 WAY)
AXO-01289 ( 420MM - 16 WAY)
You could just get a 6 way wire and cut of 2 of them ..but i thought it best to have some spare in case of disaster Help get this page up the rankings please

I'm going to give it a whirl using a vga to composite adapter (about £40) then squirting it into the connectors on the back of the sat nav. I know the image quality not brilliant but until they sort these VGA input widgets it seems the only solution...
I'm going to order the bits from the states and see how I get on
Thanks for the cable info
